I have the same problem. At first I converted some existing videos i had to MP4 or M4a but iTunes would not recognize it and obviously was not synched to my iPod classic. Last night I downloaded a Mythbusters episode just in case I was not doing the correct conversion. The download went well but was still not recognized by iTunes and iPod could not synch with the message that the file was an unrecognized file. I tried opening the episode on Quicktime and got a message that it had to be authorized with my iTunes account and password.

This is frustrating since I can't seem to watch videos on the Classic and I've had it for almost a month. Not that its a matter of life and death, I'm not really that keen on watching something on a very small screen, but since it can and should, why not.

Try a different converter. The ones specifically made for ipod: meaning, it has a dropdown for the ipod that you have when converting. You may try using Videora, it has a specific conversion setting for the ipod classic, plus it's free..

I think the issue here is that itunes wouldn't upload the converted video files. I'm experiencing same problem too.

Actually its the purchased MythBusters episode that is not recognized by iTunes and can't be synched to the iPod. The file is in the folder created by iTunes as TV Shows. Conversion can be addressed later, but since the show was a purchase from the iTunes store I am concerned.

@aovelez, you mentioned that the TV episode you downloaded from the iTunes Store was "not recognized by iTunes".. which version of iTunes are you using? does the TV episode appear in the TV Shows list? what happens when you play the file there? do you get an error message? kindly enlghten us so we could further look for possible solutions..

I have a Powerbook 15 inch 1.33 GHz running Mac OS is 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.5. Even on iTunes, the video does not play. Downloaded podcasts from the store can be loaded and synched to the iPod. There's no problem with music, just the video from the store as well as those i've converted.

Please make sure the mp4 video is compatible with iPod, sometimes, the video resolution or bitrate beyond iPod limitation, you can sync it to iPod. You can visit Apple official website for more information about iPod compatible video:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html
Or you may take a look at this guide, it's about how to convert video to iPod.
