    Uy Kai, kainggit naman niyan.
To think our Powerbooks are identical and nearly the same age (1-2 days apart).

Well, based on the definition of the cycle count, the only way to keep it low is to keep the laptop connected to an outlet at all times. In a theoretical scenario where one will keep it plugged on indefinitely, the battery will never drain, and will just keep on "trickle charging", thus theoretically, the cycle count will be very minimal. Of course, this will run contrary to the purpose of a laptop.

maybe not really "at all times", but as much as possible, like when it's at home or in the office. i keep mine tethered to an adaptor both at home and in the office (where i have separate adaptors, aside from another one in my bag), and overnight when i sleep, the 'book is also asleep, plugged in. have done this for years without any ill effect. it also guarantees that when i have to go on the road away from any power source, my 'book is always fully charged--and i do use it this way many times as well, the way 'books were intended to be used :)

this thread makes it really worth being a part of philmug no matter how it always seems impossible for me to be physically present at anything that you sirs organize. there is just so much to learn about the mac that can save you a lot of heartaches later on and thereby increasing one's productivity. like david pogue says, 'spend time to make time.'

thanks a lot for starting this thread, vic.

this is the missus' iBook which isn't even a month old:

maybe it's in the middle of a recharging cycle? the voltage goes up as the battery gets charged.

Awww that makes me feel all warm and funny inside. Then again, it could be bad pizza.

Bear in mind, if you don't have Tiger, you can still check your battery's cycle count by opening a Terminal window and typing

    ioreg -l | grep Capacity

Be sure to stretch out the Terminal window wide enough so you can see the full width of the response.

I must be abusing my powerbook as well. At least in terms of use. Mine's barely a year old, 1 year 2 months to be exact and here's my stats.

    Battery Information:

    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3952
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 2080
    Amperage (mA): 2555
    Voltage (mV): 12021
    Cycle Count: 307

Is it safe to keep the powerbook plugged in even when it's at sleep mode?

absolutely, yes, as long as you also use some kind of surge protector. i've been using my powerbooks this way for years, and reboot around twice a week tops, unless i'm installing software.

Your capacity and voltage ratings are pretty good, so don't mind the cycle count.
