I'm trying to help someone out, but I don't have a Hotmail account or Entourage installed in my system. I'm hoping someone has been able to do this. My friend is a recent switcher who wants to fully utilize her Mac. She has hundreds of contacts in her Hotmail account and wishes to import them all to Address Book. Yahoo Mail is simple because it has an option to export the contacts as CSV files. Hotmail doesn't have this option. I've read somewhere that you can run Outlook and perform a sync, which essentially imports the online contacts with the computer. From there, Outlook can export the addresses as a file. My question is this: Can Entourage do the same? Furthermore, does MSN allow free synchronization of Hotmail with Outlook or Entourage? (I also read somewhere that MSN once upon a time, disabled this feature). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks Marlon. I've seen that info too. That's why I'm asking if anyone has been able to do it. For starters, Outlook Express is not available for Mac OS X and I don't know if all of that is possible with Entourage. Have you been able to import MSN Contacts via OS X? Thanks.
MSN HOTMAIL MSN Hotmail Help doesn’t include information for exporting your Hotmail Contacts. Here’s a process you can use that will provide you with the text file you need to import the contacts into any email client 1. Sign in to your MSN Hotmail account. 2. Click the Contacts tab, and then click Print view. 3. Place the cursor to the left of the first name in the Name column. 4. Press the left mouse button and drag down to highlight all of your contacts. 5. Press CTRL + C to copy the list. (or in this case CMD C) 6. Open Microsoft Excel (or another spreadsheet program that supports the Comma Separated Values file format). 7. Click the far left cell in the second row of the spreadsheet to select it. 8. IF IE is your browser, press CTRL + V to paste the Hotmail contacts into the spreadsheet. If Mozilla Firefox is your browser, on the Edit menu, click Paste Special. In the Paste Special dialog box, select Text, and then click OK. 9. Click the top cell in the first column of the spreadsheet. Type “Name” to label the first column. 10. Click the top cell in the second column of the spreadsheet. Type “Email address” to label the second column. 11. On the spreadsheet File menu, click Save As. 12. For Save as type, select CSV (Comma delimited)(*.csv). 13. Type a name for the file, choose a location where you’ll be able to find the file again, and then click Save. --- edit: tried it and it works
It is possible to access your HOTMAIL contents (including your mails, calendars, and contacts) using ENTOURAGE but u must be subscribed to Hotmail Premium (paid) service. In the mean time, Maverick's suggestion should work, not only for Mail.app, but with any other contact/address book program that allows .csv importing.
