iPhone 5s is nework locked to Verizon, used GPP sim to work here in the Philippines. Now my friend after reminding her several times NOT to REMOVE the sim. She still did and now the iPhone is locked and asking for a password. How could it be fixed?

It’s gaining resurgence thanks to checkra1n, the unpatchable jailbreak from A5 to A11 devices. Pretty neat, actually.

What does jailbreak exactly do? I’m simply curious (too lazy to read on google, haha).

Plenty. Helps you tweak your device to an Android-level of customization, maybe even further. From as illegal as bypassing iCloud locks up to something small, like changing the button on the lock screen. I don’t want to try it (though I don’t have a compatible device since mine is an A13) because of the security risks and the hassle of hooking it up to a computer with every reboot.

that password has nothing to do with the GPP chip - GPP is used for unlocking. It has nothing to do with software jailbreak or other security feats/ passcode/password etc.

What’s weird about this is Verizon iPhone haven’t been locked until the Xs and XR series, they’re basically unlocked iPhones. That’s how I used to got my first iPhone 5 unlocked and ready to use in the PH. Why would this guy need a GPP chip for an unlocked phone?

Jailbreaking ain't worth it... it'll just give your device a lot of garbage. This is something not really necessary for average joes.

Sounds like it's such a hassle. I don't see how the customization is worth it if you're going to increase security risks.

Others wouldn’t mind risking it, just for the sake of having a unique iPhone than everyone else. I wouldn’t either honestly. I like my device as it is..
