Hi ! Im a newbie to Macintosh computers and I have the new Mac OS X 10.5.5. Im confused, is this a Leopard or a Tiger ? Also, if anyone has time to answer this thread.. Id like to ask for a recommended APP for my Macbook. I usually love to chat to my friends and relatives using the webcam, i also love to create videos and pictures. What im using right now is IMovie, Iphoto and the APP that is already installed here in my computer. Do you have other suggestions and where can i get them ? If there is a FREE APP, it would be great ! I also want to ask if you have ANTIVIRUS in your Mac and what do you use ? And is it OK to download the FREE Limewire ? Id like to download some MUsic because i dont have anything on my itunes. Pls. help a newbie like me. I am a little used to PCS but im a beginner to MAcintosh. thanks for reading and i hope to hear from all of you. PEACE and Advance Happy Halloween ! P.S. Also, i noticed i have Office 2008 12.1.3 UPDATE on the side of my screen. I dont remember downloading them. But i see it on my computer. What is this ? I tried installing it but it wont.
Keep using the iMovie and iPhoto packages. It will do everything you need at this time so you dont get in over your head.... also they are MUCH better than ANY free app you can find. Professional content has been produced using those applications alone ! Remember MAC can do out of the box what PC users have to buy many software to do ! your 10.5 is Leopard... Much newer than Tiger... LIMEWIRE.. its ok... www.limewire.com get it now... iTunes can automatically recognize ALL songs you download with Limewire ! Its a nice combo OFFICE gives you a free trial with a new system. I think it stops working after 30 days. I always remove kc I have original office software.
your system is Leopard already based on what you said (Mac OS X 10.5.5), no need to install antivirus because MAC OS X is not vulnerable to viruses.
thanks for the response. Any other recommendations that other Mac users use ? Id like to download the free version of Limewire but im scared if i would accidentally download a virus from the program. Does everyone of you purchase your songs at Itunes or you get it from Limewire as well ? thanks again.
macs are totally cool with viruses. coz mac dont run .exes or the autoruns. i dunno if limewire is legal to talk about on this forum but its ok downloading music from it eventhough you accidentally download a trojan from limewire, your mac would not be affected by it. but for sop purposes, i use clamxav, a virus scanner myself even though macs are invulnerable to viruses.
no virus on a mac hmmm okay here's an app list for you.. 1. quicksilver = app launcher and so much more 2. appdelete =for un installing your trial office 3. onyx = for your maintenance 4. apple jack = trouble shooting utility 5. neooffice/open office 3 = free office suit 6. hand break = for dvd ripping tool 7. adium = multi client chatting app 8. cabus = use it instead of limewire 9. vlc & mplayer & perian = for all your movies 10. sinuti or ipodisk = if you have an ipod 11. burn = for burning 12. camino/firefox = if you dont like safari(but if you do then download the safari tabs, safari adblock, inquisitor, cooliris plugins) 13. tomato/transmission = for all your torrents need awss i think thats it... all listed app above are freewares.. ikaw na bahala maghanap sa iba pang app na gusto mo..
OS X 10.5 is Leopard. OS X 10.4 is Tiger iChat, the included chat app works well. Yahoo messenger is also good, since it includes video & audio chat. For creating videos & pictures, if you're a beginner or a newbie, iMovie & iPhoto are pretty much all you need. And the best is they are free with your Mac. I don't use an antivirus. Macs aren't affected by Windows-based viruses. So yes, you can use Limewire to download songs. Just know ahead of time that technically this is piracy and is technically illegal.
I found this links in one of the threads here in Philmug. Hope this helps...
