    Paging the Mac Music Gurus, I need help;

    You see, I have 2 Macs, a G5 imac and a G3 chiclet iBook, and the thing is, I'm have to transfer all my mp3's into the iMac, because I plan on bringing the iBook with me on a trip... I'm running into a bit of trouble because of the ff:

    1) I can only transfer the files via Firewire Target Disk Mode
    2) I tried to Copy+Paste the iBook's files into the iMac's music library; the thing is, the files are there alright, but they don't register on the iTunes song selection screen.
    3) The only way I've found that works is if I manually click on each and every single mp3 file on the disk, for them to show up and register on iTunes.
    4) I mistakenly deleted the iTunes Music Data file on the iMac, while I way trying a way to sort it out.

    I have to transfer about 2000+ mp3's, and this mano-mano way of doing it it getting pretty tiring.

    I've tried the syncomac app from Apple's website, and it still doesn't work...

    Is there an easier way of getting it done?

    Same predicament...

    Solved it using a kewl freeware app called syncOtunes.

    You just have to enable file sharing between the 2 macs in question, run the app on one of em' and it will synchronize both folders files AND the XML database (used by iTunes).

    Good Luck.

    i'm not an ipod guru but here's what i did before that worked perfectly for me.

    copy iBooks songs into iMac in separate location/directory
    then in iTunes, File -> Add Folder to Library
    specify the location
    when the song appears in iTunes
    goto Advance -> Consolidate Library

    Since we're on the having trouble consolidating my iTunes library. You see my iTunes music folder is set to my external HDD. Since I was having problems with my internal HDD I installed an OS onto my external HDD. So I've been booting from my external for the last few weeks and thus all my songs are there.

    Today, I got my internal HDD working so I installed iTunes and before adding any songs into my iTunes on my internal. I specified my iTunes drive as my external and currently have nothing in my internal HDD.

    I've tried consolidating the library but there are some songs that are missing. Specifically stuff I bought from iTMS. Thing is it's been difficult figuring out which song aren't there since I've got so many songs in my HDD.

    Shouldn't my iTunes folder update itself as long as the song is in my iTunes folder? I only have one music folder in my external HDD and none in my internal.
