HELP! mbp display won't light up :(

i last used my MBP at around 3am, shut it down and went to sleep. when i turned it on, the display won't light up, but the keyboard lights are on, as well as the indicator light, but with a faint glow. i can also hear the startup sound, but the display won't light up. tried removing the battery and directly plugging it in, but it still won't work :( help! :(

edit: also tried resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US) but to no avail :( my mbp is 1yr 4mos old.

Can you try an external display? Or adjust the screen brightness via the keyboard? The latter may sound silly, but that really does happen sometimes (at least twice with me; must have pressed it too much before shutting down).

does it make a sound? could the brightness of the LCD just be set to the lowest? i remember when I first turned on my mac i couldn't see the welcome video, but I tried turning on the LCD brightness and i was able to view the welcome screen... hopefully that's just it...

Hi check out this thread. Your unit might be part of the "recall".

    HTH!

let authorized apple techs service the laptop.. not all in the notebook are user-friendly or can be done by self..

yeah, i just called the apple center. they have to do a diagnosis first before they can confirm that my laptop is indeed part of the batch with defective video cards. thanks so much. :)

It might be written on the box your MBP came in. Or try the User Guide (not sure about that)
