Hey there guys! I just installed iLife 05 expecting to see iPhoto opening pictures faster, however, when I opened iPhoto it just kept on crashing on me! I'm in a panic because all of my pictures are there.

What could have caused it? How do I repair it? And if ever, how do I go back to my old iPhoto?

Help please! Thanks a million guys!

I managed to get the thing started again, but now my question is that how come some of my recent albums have gone missing. When I looked at the iPhoto folder the pictures are no longer there. What could have happened? :(

I have the same problem. I have upgraded to iLife 05 (bundled with the new PB 12 1.5ghz) i just pruchased. Like you, my iphoto05 keeps crashing. It quits before it is even opened!

    What's wrong here?

Hi, Francis! What did you do to finally open iphoto? You uninstalled it? And put back iPhoto04?

Have you tried deleting the iPhoto preferences file?

Got it. I was able to open iPhoto05 finally. Visited forums in maccentral and i got these instructions:

    First one:
"I did not give up and found this elsewhere, worked for me! Throw away the files in your iphoto library named: "Thumb32.data" Thumb64.data" and ThumbJPG.data". Throw away "com.apple.iphoto.plist" in your libray/preferences folder. Empty the trash. Restart computer and start iphoto. iphoto 5 now works like a charm! Happy me and thank god for forums!"

(I tried this but it didn't work.)

    So, the next tip.

"1. Repair your permissions. Run Disk Utility (in Applications, Utilities), then select the First Aid tab and click on Repair Permissions.

    2. If the above doesn't work, reinstall iPhoto from scratch. Open Applications from the Finder, drag iPhoto to the Trash, empty the Trash and reinstall from the CD. Remember to upgrade to 5.0.1 again." (Or "Try this: open the Finder; select the Macintosh HD, then search for iPhoto in the search box. Trash what you find, and start from scratch.")

I did repair permissions. Again, it didn't work.

I then trashed existing iPhoto files and reinstall from the Apple install CD (DVD?).

I restarted... iPhoto now in session! Finally!

Because I trashed all iPhoto files, i also lost all my photo database. But no worry, I will just copy them from my old PB and load it in iPhoto05.

i moved the iPhoto Library contained in your photos folder into another location. Then I started iPhoto. It opened up and asked me if I wanted to build a new library. I did it and then I used this program called iPhoto extractor pro to extract my 6K pictures. After that the bloody part of reconstructing my libraries happened. It took me 4 days to reconstruct the library, but i took it as a blessing to clean out the pictures I don't want.

Once you've done all that, using iPhoto is a such a blessing. You just have to undergo the bloody process of reimporting all your pics.

    Hope this helps.

Oh God, I have to reconstruct my photo libraries?

But thanks, francis! This will at least prepare me psychologically! Thank you for sharing!
