hi guys, searched the forums and the Internet for an issue which has been bugging me for quite some time, and still can't find an answer. i can't seem to download.. anything! the problem started to occur when firefox just stopped downloading dmg files. google chrome could. then the problem went on to chrome and safari.

    1. clicking on links to downloads just shows a new blank browser screen that's in perpetual loading
    2. ran disk utility, still nothing
    3. tried to download dmgs, etc using torrent apps like utorrent, still nothing
    4. opened a new user account. nada.
    5. firefox, safari, google chrome ... same results.
    6. i can download on my windows 7 partition though.
    7. software update downloads and email attachments work

what am i missing? my last option is to reformat but i'd want to avoid this for obvious reasons. takes too much time. any insights? :)

    thanks in advance!

Is it on particular site? have you tried downloading others? what about YouTube videos? have you installed a program recently?

This happened to me with my new 13" MBP, I think two days after I got it. We can't find the reason why. Even the newly installed Firefox refused to download and even the people in Ynzal were not able to solve the problem....The ultimate solution, which was to reinstall the OS solved the problem.

This is scary, it could happen to any mac I suppose. This makes me think to get an external HDD for backup. Thanks for the info docnap.

Eto pa. My Lacie D2Quadra, supposed to be a server grade external hard drive refused to be recognized by my computers for no apparent reason. They won't even mount. I again brought it to Ynzal and they can't also find out why. They were able to mount it with a Mac running on Tiger. Weird. Anyway, I am now retrieving my pictures and will format the drive. I think we have to back up using optical media every so often. It seems that we can't trust our Hard Drives these days.

I Also had to buy a MobileMe account. At least whatever happens, I can restore from the Net, and I can have a net based HDD which is the iDisk :(

The best thought i had was that you uninstalled a program that plugs into other programs. Not 100% sure though. docnap is right, you have to start from the scratch as other forums advised/indicated.

@jayveef, do you have any security software installed? Is the OS X firewall enabled?

    Hi JayVee,

    These are worth trying:

    1. Delete Preferences file…
    2. Delete cache and cookies…
    3. or if Safari, reset Safari.

    Hope it helps…

I tried downloading files just now, and mine is working fine. Did any of you experience this problem after the 10.5.8 upgrade? Could have been the update the broke something. Or try updating if you haven't, maybe this may help. By default firefox uses the option 'Save files to Downloads', try choosing 'Always ask me where to save files'. It's under Firefox menu > Preferences > Main tab > downloads section. Good luck sa inyo.

are you connected to a network with multiple macs via APX or AEBS? Had a similar problem but it was solved when I changed the IP address of the router. It was sharing the same address with one of the computers. Racked my brain for 3 whole days. I could surf, chat, etc except download.

  14. i dont know if my problem is the same.....

i cant download file, jpegs, docs, applications... i already reset the safari...

in the downloads window it says "cannot create file"
