I woke up today and surprisingly found all my contacts gone from address book! I didn't do anything that could obviously deleted them.

Would you have any idea of how this happened? Or perhaps could advise on how I can retrieve all those precious contacts?

    TIA for the help!

    Hi,

Did you recently update a phone with the Address Book?

This happened to me before when I tried to sync a new phone with my 'Book. It was taking too long so I quit the sync only to find out that half my directory was deleted.

The new phone overwrote the Address Book instead of syncing it. Haay!

Or maybe you created/ changed a new user account?

Navigate here: Home > Library > Application Support > AddressBook

and back up the whole folder. Then see if there's an AddressBook.data.previous file. If there is, just rename it to AddressBook.data to restore your contacts.

@marvinp.. thanks.. tried your suggestion but it still couldn't get my contacts back.
@rattrapante.. sorry, poor me doesn't have time machine.. yet.
@sabonis.. i sync only my ipod nano with my macbook but i can't recall having to manually configure a sync with address book.

so this means i'm doomed with zero contacts? good thing the holidays are coming.. i might spend it all bring my contacts back one by one!

@stubborn_sage.....might want to consider uploading your to-be-reconstructed contacts in Yahoo or google address books. Very permanent and safe place to store your contacts. I use my yahoo account to sync my iphone contacts list.

yup.. have experienced this a couple of times. on both occassion, i was syncing but for some reason had the syncing terminated abnormally. after which, my entire address book/contact details were all gone:< have not really recovered the data but instead re-created my contact list one by one... due to this, i would now backup my address book prior to any syncing to protect against any 'data loss'. Lesson learned the hard way!
