since the 10.5.6 update didnt include this, found this on macrumors and it works on my Rev A 1.8 macbook Air..

    download this file:

    - Copy, backup, or rename the old .kext located at system/library/extensions/AppleUSBMultitouch.kext
    - transfer the new one and authenticate
    - launch Disk Utility and repair permission
    - reboot

note: got too excited and posted the wrong title, Hope the mods can change it so it's not misleading..

enjoy the four finger gesture everyone :D

Ohh cool. One question though, since its a hack, won't it void the warranty?

im sure it wont but if you have warranty concern dont install it.

btw this will work on these models only, dont try this if your mac is not on the list.

    Macbook Air Early 08- 1.6/1.8ghz
    Macbook Pro Early 08 - Penryn 2.4/2.5/2.6ghz 15 or 17 inch
    Unibody Macbook - comes preinstalled
Unibody Macbook Pro - comes preinstalled
Macbook Air Late 2008 - 1.6/1.8 DDR3 Nvidia (some has 4 finger gesture and some are not)

@juanegg, if your MBP is one of the ones on Skinhead's list it will be able to do this. (If you bought your MBP since about March of this year or recent, it should work.

Re: Four Finger Gesture on Early 08 Macs

notice my first screenshot that there's a Secondary Click which is pretty much useless for us (MBP,MBA users).. if you want a much cooler trackpad preference and dont want it included you can download the file (above) and edit the info.plist.

heres the finish product below after editing, notice the secondary click is gone and the trackpad has a button now (before is buttonless glass trackpad wc is on unibody macs only) :)

now i can disable my hot corners and no need to alt tab haha..

just a note, you must be on 10.5.6 (right skinhead?).

tried it on my 10.5.5 and it didn't work. :)

Re: Four Finger Gesture on Early 08 Macs

^^ yes you need to be on 10.5.6 for it to work, there is a guide to enable 4 finger gesture on 10.5.5 but it's really too technical and dangerous to do..

uploaded the modified .kext for those who dont want a secondary click on their trackpad preference (my 2nd screenshot on page 1).

    click to download

any brave souls that have tried this hack on their santa rosas?

got it to work on the wifey's MBA!
almost gave me a heart attack though... trackpad stopped working after initial install. had to dig up an old usb mouse to get things to work again.
    thanks!

Re: Four Finger Gesture on Early 08 Macs

Update: Can't make it work for my early/mid-2008 MBP. I did everything in the first step, and once I rebooted, I lost my trackpad and keyboard. Had to reboot using the OS X install disk 1, and re-install 10.5.6 to get a new AppleUSBMultitouch.kext file.

Oh well. I guess I'll just wait for Apple to release the official update. :(

    sorry to hear that barre.

to all who will attempt to install this, please be sure to repair disk permission before reboot, also you can also use Onyx. If you got stuck with no trackpad response after the boot you can try any of the ff:

    - use a USB mouse
    - Repair Disk permission using install DVD
    - boot into safe mode
    - applejack
    - reinstall OSX :)
