    Hi.

I was wondering if any iOS user here has tried receiving Government/Emergency/Amber alerts here in the Philippines? (This is different from the usual texts from NDRRMC).

I read somewhere online that there is a setting for this — Notifications then scroll down to Government alerts. But I couldn’t fund such notification setting in iOS 11 (iPhone 6, iPhone X).

I have an Android phone and received a couple of Government Emergency alerts (again not the SMS from
NDRRMC, but alerts where the phone makes an alarm sound and a government message appears) but none on iPhone.

Anyone knows if iPhones in the Philippines have this feature? How do we enable it?

    Thanks.

Yes. We get this all the time.

It reminds me about typhoons that don't arrive and mall discounts I don't care about.

    lol

Mm...telcos need to update to enable government broadcast. It should be under notifications but no such option for iPhone X.

does our telco uses this route for alerts?

almost always the alerts are late for like 3-4 hours which is useless already by the time you receive it.

Upon re-checking, my iPhone 6Plus has this setting pala (thanks to Sir Roman for the screenshot). But wala sa iPhone X.
Any other iPhone X users who has noticed this in their phones?

I have it on mine. I’d assumed it’s always an available setting. My iPhone SE, 6S and X has it.

SMART sent out a test alert. The sound it makes will really get your attention. Good thing I was not doing something important. Might be embarrassing in class or meetings since it'll sound off even on silent mode.

Received an alert on my iPhone 6 Plus and indeed it will really get your attention, hence the name Emergency Alert. hehe. But why does this setting not appear on other models? My 6Plus, Android phone all got alerts pero ang iPhone X wala. :(

I got this from the Apple Website:

    * Government Alerts are supported when using a SIM card from a supported carrier.

So I’d assume Globe SIM doesn’t have it?

I think it's part of the carrier settings (profile) which Apple lets carriers control. My guess is that iPhone X is not white-listed to show it on settings when Globe/Smart rolled out the latest Carrier Profile.

Similar to how you can see VoLTE/WiFi Calling settings on carrier when you insert an international sim while traveling.

My Smart-issued iPhone X has it but my Globe-issued iPhone 7 Plus doesn't have it.

Yes, I only ever received government notifications through Smart. Never seen one with Globe.

As for its practicality, well, let’s say the notifications that arrived were eyebrow-raising at best.

Last year amber alerts would continuously wake me up only to notify me about the flooding at some other place. It’s either that or something about typhoons that never really made an impact contrary to the numerous alerts. lol.

I thinks this is with our local telco companies (Smart & Globe) support for government alerts.

On my iPhone 6s, has a Smart prepaid SIM w/c has the Government Alerts options but on my iPhone 8 that has a Globe postpaid SIM, does not have the Government Alerts.
