FileMakerPro v8.5 in Universal Binary has finally been released, promising up to 116% speed improvements over the PowerPC release, as well as Web integration and a new FileMaker Learning Center.

There are four versions of FileMaker database applications being released: FileMaker Pro 8.5, FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced, FileMaker Server 8.0v4 and FileMaker Server 8.0v4 Advanced.

What's new in FileMaker Pro 8.5:
    - FileMaker Web Viewer
    - FileMaker Learning Center
    - Object Functions and Scripts
    - Support for Intel-based Macs

What's new in FileMaker Pro Advanced 8.5:
    - Custom Tooltips
    - Runtime Maker
    - Kiosk Maker
    - Data Viewer
    - Script Debugger
    - Database Design Report

What's new in FileMaker Pro Server 8.0v4:
    - FileMaker Server is now more stable if it is stopped while under load.
    - Fixed a problem that caused Server to ignore a stop –y command.
    - Fixed a problem that could cause FileMaker Server to quit if a stop command was issued by the FileMaker Server Admin.
    - Fixed a problem that could cause FileMaker Server to quit unexpectedly when statistics logging is enabled.
    - Fixed a problem that could cause commands to disconnect clients to not be logged.
    - Fixed a problem that could prevent new clients from connecting to a hosted database.
    - Fixed a problem that could cause statistics to not calculate and display accurately. In certain cases, only incoming bytes were counted. Now both incoming and outgoing bytes are counted.
    - Fixed a problem that could cause FileMaker Server to continue to accept new connections after a stop command was issued by the FileMaker Server Admin.
    - xDBC Improvements
    - Fixed a problem that caused network problem and a connection to be closed when double quotation marks (“) are used to enclose a character string.
    - When “Field Access” is set to NONE, the correct errors are returned for SELECT and DELETE statements.
    - The connection is no longer closed when executing SELECT on a field from a table that has been deleted.
    - JDBC: Prepared statements for DATE, TIME, and TIMESTAMP bindings no longer return an error. ODBC: Prepared statements for DATE, TIME, and TIMESTAMP bindings no longer return an empty result set.
    - JDBC: setTime(int, Time) no longer causes executeUpdate() to return the error message “[DataDirect][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket][DataDirect][ODBC FileMaker driver]String data, right truncated. Error in parameter 1.”
    - In manual commit mode Update when Unique constraint violation now returns an error immediately.

What's new in FileMaker Pro Advanced 8.0v4:
    - XML improvements
    - Fixed a problem with portal data in XML results. In some cases data was output in the order that the fields are drawn on the layout so that related set data is broken up by non-portal fields. All the related-set field-definition elements will now aggregate together and display correctly.
    - Fixed a problem that caused FMPXMLRESULT.xml to return invalid XML. This occurred when FMPXMLRESULT.xml referenced a layout that contained a field from an unrelated table or a field in a related table that contained no data.
    - Fixed a problem that caused invalid XML data to be returned if the data is from a related field which is outside of a portal on a layout.
    - Fixed a problem that caused an Apache Tomcat HTTP 500 error to be returned with a stack trace if the document() function attempts to load from an invalid URL.
    - Upgraded Xalan version to 2.7.0 to improve support for EXSLT functionality.
