Don't know why but whenever i press F12 to eject the cd, nothing happens :( this is really worrying me, i don't know if its the latest software update for the OS had something to do with this... or worse than that... anybody experience this? :wound:

Got it working again  (thanks Pat!!)

But for those who will encounter this problem... all you have to do is restart while holding the mouse button (corded or cordless, doesn't matter). after that the F12 button should be working again

Hey! I have this problem too - now, my question is what does holding down the mouse button while restarting have to do with it? =\

    Hi Aisrael,

Holding down the mouse button while restarting is a standard troubleshooting procedure on Mac Operating Systems to do an emergency ejection of a disc drive.

Ahhhh! On the PC we used to just open it up, remove the drive, pry it open with a screwdriver... kidding!

So, ok, somehow by using the 'emergency eject' function, the F12 button starts working again, huh?

    Strange things, these Macs. ;)

This happened to me lasst night when I updated my os from 10.3.5 to 10.3.8. After that the F12 eject wasnt working. But after a restart, it turned out ok.

Well, it's usually an unrecognizable or defective CD or DVD that will cause the problem. Obivously, once you get to remove the problematic CD, you will no longer have a problem.

Other older Mac models also have a "pin button" (also found in Wintels) wherein you could "manually" and "mechanically" eject a disc tray using, say, a straightened paper clip.

    Regards,
    Christian

Hmmm.. my SuperDrive didn't like the Barney DVD I stuck into it. Time to eject

    ********

I tried holding down the MOUSE button while simultaneously turning on the system. It made some strange noises and didn't turn on the usual way,

BUT CD IS STILL STUCK INSIDE.

    Any other suggestions?

    iBook G4 1.33GHZ Superdrive.
