    Hello All,

I've been searching the forums and I cant' seem to find anything so I thought I would start a thread focussed more on the local experiences. I have a couple of questions:

    For the housings

    1. Where can you get them here in Manila? (locally or what will deliver within the Metro)

    2. We all know the world faves (eg. Sonnet eGFX, Razer Core X, Aktio, etc.) , are there any local alternatives or clones which are cheaper, but almost as good?

What do you have and your experiences setting them up with your MBPs?

    Feel free to share!

for those new to the subject:

eGPU support is not limited to Thunderbolt 3-equipped Macs. With this unofficial script it allows all Macs with Thunderbolt to have it. Although Thunderbolt 1 and 2 would bottleneck the eGPU from hitting its potential.

    https://egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/sc...script-all-solutions-fully-automated/paged/1/

    Thunderbolt-equipped Macs

Thunderbolt 1 10Gbps (Mini DisplayPort connector)

Macbook Pro early 2011 to early 2013
    iMac mid-2011 to mid-2014
Macbook Air mid-2011 to early 2014
    Mac mini mid-2011 & late 2012

Thunderbolt 2 20Gbps (Mini DisplayPort connector)

Macbook Pro late 2013 to mid 2015
iMac late 2014 to late 2015
Macbook Air early 2015 to 2017
    Mac mini late 2014
    Mac Pro late 2013

    Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps (USB-C connector)

Macbook Pro late 2016 to mid-2017
    iMac mid-2017
    iMac Pro late 2017

No Mid-2018 Macs have been announced as of this posting.

No Early 2011 to Mid 2018 Macbook ever received Thunderbolt 1, 2 or 3 as of this posting.

Looking at how frequently Macs get update it appears that notebooks sell more than desktops. Macbook Pros sells the most notebooks and the the iMac sells the most desktops.

I hope they still sell desktops by early 2023.

Couldn't find thunderbolt 3 eGPUs on our local market. I opted for the amazon > shippingcart route.

I think the cheapest thunderbolt 3 supported is from Akitio. but the size and customisability of the razer core x won me over.

    nice!

take note it only supports up to 87watts. rules out higher powered windows laptops that draws more than that. but for the macbook pro 15 2017. should be enough power already. :)

great find! didn't even know owc had this.haha.
