    Hi,

can I use an external DVD writer (USB) on my iBook G4? Will OS X recognize it or should i look for a device with Mac logo?

    thanks

Yes, I think it's possible. I've been researching that also, because the superdrive on my powerbook spits out every cd i put in it. I wanted to upgrade to leopard. but can't because of my drive. let me know if you have any success in doing so.

It's possible. I just bought an external dvd writer and it works flawlessly on ibook g4.
I can watch movies and burn dvd's with no problem at all..

Makoy - care to share the brand you bought. Was looking at GH the past month but not too sure if those I saw would work.

I suggest you use an external optical drive with FireWire interface. You can assemble one by having a 5.25" hard dive/optical drive enclosure from Cd-r King which has a dual interface (USB & FireWire) and an internal SATA optical drive for desktop (whatever brand you prefer).
