Vlc is cross-platform. best feature for me besides the fact that it handles many formats is the ability to always stay on top of your desktop so i can work while watching

    i have been using Mira - http://twistedmelon.com/

its shareware but after the trial period, the only limitation is that it can control up to 3 apps only, which is fine with me as I only need it for ppt.

it installs as a pane in system prefs and never has to be started up.

    DJ beat me to it!

So i guess i have to add. I tried another app with a similar approach (forget what the app is called but the icon looks like a small red couch). It worked fine but my only gripe was that I had to run the app all the time to get the remote started. With Mira, the thing just worked. Also, the UI seemes a lot better than iRedLite, with a nice app selector (same look as doing an alt+tab) and other stuff.

I used Mira for a while, it was great and it helped me a couple of times with my keynote and powerpoint presentations for class, but i ididnt like the trial version, and i just didnt wanna spend so much on it. Also there were still a few bugs i noticed, its been a while so i can remember what exactly made me remove it.

iredlite i believe is a much better app with a more user friendly user interface. I have yet to try it with keynote and powerpoint, since this is where it counts for me. The remote is sufficient enought to control the rest of my need, itunes, quicktime, front row etc.

Just one question, i see the cool bluetooth functionality with sony ericsson phones, are there any for motorola? or any other brand of mobile phones?

    Thanks guys.
