    Anyone encountered this?

I have two excel files with different file names and different content, when i opened one file today, the content is exactly the same as the other one. I dont save as "save as", i just press the save icon before closing a file. So, I dont know what went wrong, Is it still possible to recover my lost content?

    Thanks in advance!

Unless you regularly do back up (time machine) you file might not be recovered.

Just a thought. This happened to me a long time ago.

All my documents were filed in the Documents in Finder. There was a time I copied a particular file and pasted it in the desktop for easy access. It was a force of habit that I would go through Finder to get the file. Once I updated the file (thru Finder and not Desktop), what happens it the file from Desktop doesn't get updated, only the file thru Finder. And same applies vice-versa.

So I got confused for a while and then I decided to delete the file from Desktop and just go though Finder for consistency and less confusion.

    Hope this helps.

This shouldn't happen. If you deleted the file on the desktop and just go through the Finder to access it, this means they are different files. Try recovering the file from Trash (if it's still there). Then, double check the file properties (select each file and press Command+I). Under General group, check Where field and see if both files have the same path.

maybe office rescue (a software) can help you recover your files

I was intrigued with this and I did some mock up testing. I realized that I was doing the wrong thing. Instead of just copying/pasting a document from Finder to Desktop, you should be selecting "Make Alias" instead of "Duplicate". This way any changes you make on a file (from Finder) the file on your desktop will automatically be updated.

i have the software with me! it's called office salvage. The same thing happened to me. I mistakenly overwritten an excel file. The software was able to recover a previous copy of the file (ala rescue pro for pictures)

@macmyworld - I suggest uninstalling the application and re-install it.
