We're being flooded with emulators for the Mac, for old game consoles, new game consoles and even old computers (ROMs not included) :
Whoa! Ang dami nga. And the amazing this is that they're all written by one dude from Ireland! ~Henjie
I wish I have the know-how to make a Windows emulator. That's a multi-million business right there. ;-) ~Henjie
While we're on the topic, who can suggest a a good Super NES emulator? And yeah, good ROMS, especially Donkey Kong Country.
You might want to join these folks here, a group of local developers who have worked on a Windows-emulator-for-Linux product. Remains to be seen what the actual product is capable of (relative to Wine).
I actually know SpecOpS Labs' Chief Software Architect, Dr. Caslon Chua. Awesome computer scientist. I'm not worthy of being on his team. ~Henjie
To everyone asking where to get ROMs: it should be mentioned that many game developers and publishers -- notably Nintendo -- are pretty serious about enforcing copyright on their games, even the old NES and SuperNES GAMES. Therefore it is illegal to possess and use a ROM unless you happen to own the original game cart or CD. Which is why I never threw out my old SuperNES and its cartridges, and why I still hang on to my Nintendo 64 and its carts.
Nothing beats the real thing pa rin! I sure wish I knew where our Donkey Kong Country went. I'm no gamer but when I like a game, I LIKE it!!! The machine is with my sister but the carts, I don't know!
