China is naturally abundant with rare earth elements and so can churn out EV cars at a higher rate.

Take a look at this China exclusive HR-V EV in a joint venture with GAC Motors:

    Honda Everus VE-1

^we are lucky that China drives on the right side.

Bringing in cars here doesn't need conversion.

Mmm...in Thailand and Malaysia, Nissan is selling the Leaf at around php2.5 m. That is luxury car pricing and a huge barrier to entry. Toyota’s Prius hybrid is priced sky-high here. Too expensive. They have to fix the pricing if they wish for electrics/hybrids to succeed in the local market. Otherwise, the Leaf, like the Prius, will be a very small niche car model. Irrelevant. The sweet spot is around 1 to 1.3 m php.

^I agree... Electric Cars are just too expensive for our market.

    BYD's e6 is presently priced at 4.2M!

I used to see a lot of electric cars(public transports) in Makati. Now, I don't see any. I always thought electric vehicles will become more available for public transport first. but, now it seems like it's losing momentum.

Here in SG, you'll see BYD e6's for Grab (just choose the "electric taxi" option)

Then Bluecar if you're into car sharing.

A report last year mentioned 20% of taxis here are hybrids

In other countries, motorists buy electric cars and hybrids because they want to save money and the environment. The governments there help via subsidies and/or tax breaks, because you are helping clean air.

Here, only billionaires can afford to buy an EV, and there are not too many environmentalists among them. The government here says screw you, screw the air, and then tries to figure out ways to tax your tree-hugging ass, because mayaman ka naman e.

I hope the Nissan Leaf is not priced as much as a Lexus, I really do. But the next problem would be where to plug it in. Wala bang Qi charging mat na pwede dyan?

My mind is saying buy a Prius or a Lexus Hybrid, but the other side is saying buy an STI...in fact make it a Mustang!

This happens to me when I see a hybrid and go, "man I like how they're contributing to the environment, must be a nice person, I should do the same". But then, I hear the roar of a shiny blue V8 Mustang passing by and I go, "Cool!!!! makes that Prius look like crap!". Then to control myself, I just go,"Yeah that guy in the Mustang is compensating for something". :cautious:

...I’ll be compensating for something sometime in the future.

Mm...this is more like it. After deducting US government subsidy of usd 7,500:

As per news, there will be no excise tax for the Leaf here. If eVAT of 12% is removed, the retail price should be more consumer- friendly and may be enough for PH car shoppers to switch to EVs.

I d like to make the switch. Never mind the ordinary looks. What is more important is lowering the carbon footprint and maybe help reduce air pollution in Metro Manila.

I was once watching a YouTube video about a Tesla Owner who was temporarily forced to use an Petrol SUV

One of the things he hated was the fact that he needed to go to a gas station...

According to him, with an electric car, you get a full tank every morning...

One thing I hate about the Prius... My City has a bigger trunk space!

when electric cars become more affordable, it would be great to have that as my daily driver.

And then just bring out the conventional gas-guzzling, fuel-hungry, and loud car (or SUV) for weekend drives.

I was in Texas last month and found out that Texas is one two states that bar the sale of cars directly to customers (how Tesla sells cars, no dealership)

That didn't stop Tesla from getting a space inside the posh The Galleria mall in Uptown to advertise it's cars. You have to do everything online though to purchase one

@Dekra I love the gull wing. But, I think they don't call it gull wing, it's something else.
