I just want to share what I recently discover, thanks to a fellow PhilMUG member, that downloading YouTube videos is a breeze: 1. Open Safari 2. Go to www.YouTube.com 3. Search for the video you want to download 4. Watch it, or simply wait for the video to be completely 'streamed' (not sure of my term). 5. Press Command+Option+A for Mac, or Control+Alt+A for Windows 6. Locate for a file with the biggest size, or if you can find the file with .flv extension, that's it. 7. Double click on it 8. In a split second, expect your video to be in your Download folder. I hope it's not posted here. hehe.. Enjoy. Update: It may usually take more than a minute download a video, depending on its size. Update2: Her source is MacWorld Mac OS X Hints, I can't seem to search the exact article.
You can also use SafariStand. I use it as a 'flash blocker' since I hate ads and flash animation slows down old machines. This is how it looks like when a flash video is blocked: And this, when you chose to load the flash video: To download or save a flash video, wait for the video to stream. Then cmd-click the video and an option will appear 'copy video to download...' (also shown above)
SafariStand is not for YouTube only. All embedded flash videos/FLV in websites can be downloaded with SafariStand.
Phil, here's the link: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070420014456930 At least you don't have to download any third-party app to get your flash videos online. Safari is enough.
I've always used TubeTv (freeware) to browse and download from YouTube, its great since it's automatically converts the file into an iTunes compatible format.
With Phil's tip, alternatively, instead of pressing Command+Option+A, you can click Window->Activity in the Menu Bar.
tubetv worked great when i first installed it, but now it keeps on giving me errors. i reinstalled it on SL with still the same problem. thats why i love phils tip since you dont need 3rd party software to download the videos. it isnt as easy as tubetv with one click download, but it works great.
Nice tip but it had been thoroughly discussed here. http://www.philmug.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=12021&highlight=downloading+video
