i was helping my friend w/ his new mac, & every time we try to download apps in itunes, this message pops up. we followed the instructions & checked the said box, but we still get the same message. i aslo tried using my itunes account, but i get the same thing. we tried restarting, reinstalling itunes & using disk utility's verify & repair permissions, but we still get the same result. kinda frustrating din on my part because i was constantly convincing him to switch to mac & now i have no idea on how to solve this hehe. thanks!
What user are you logged in as? does that user have "write" permissions? like say administrator? Unless you're logged in as such one can't "download/install" anything on the computer... Also try zapping PRAM or firewall access... the second image isn't neccessary
Restart the mac, as soon as you hear the "chime" press and hold the keys "P" , "R" , "Option" , "Command" down until you hear the "chime" again...
@bugs, did you copy an iTunes folder from a different account directly to your friend's Music folder?
@rc - ok will try that. thanks! @ patrickgaerlan - ummm im not sure if my friend did that before asking for my help, but what i know is he copied his songs (from his windows laptop) to his external drive & i added the songs to his library using itunes>file>add to library. did we do something wrong? thanks @chetiboy - tried authorizing w/ 2 accounts, still same result.
@bugs: If you copy the folder of a different account into your friend's account, the permissions for that folder will still be under the original account holder and not your friend's, thus the access problems. Right click the music folders and click get info, scroll down to sharing and permissions and see if your friend has full read/write access.
as far as i know it's still the same account since he just copied it from his old laptop to his external then to his mac. will check it tom when i get to see him. thanks!
just checked w/ my friend's mbp, he has read/write access to itunes. tried the pram thing too but too no avail any other suggestions? thanks!
Hmmm... was going to suggest repair permissions....but scanned tru your original post again to make sure... I would bet it would result in the same thing...but aside from the preference window, have you already tried using the "Store" tab which runs along the Apple menu then click on "Check for Available Downloads..." Sorry can't think of anything else at the moment...
