hi guys, i just read that someone's looking for a laptop dj..got me wondering, where can i download applications for laptop djing for my iBook..hehehe..just interested.thanks guys!:smooch:
if you re-read that thread the starter mentioned software used for laptop dj'ing. i copied it for you: now all you have to do is google those titles. or you could just google laptop dj software and get good results with less effort. [Edited on 2-8-2005 by ultratramp]
Always try to do a google search for stuff you are looking for- Traktor DJ DJ-1800 Baytex Party Megaseg Finalscratch Hercules Just search further to be able to download demos if they are readily available. I personally haven't tried them myself, they are just the popular ones in Google.
You wanna use Traktor. Forget DJ-1800 (all look but no usability for laptops), Megaseg (amateur). Party may be interesting, but never heard of before, so probably kinda amateur as well. FinalScratch and Hercules have hardware components. If you wanna go pro, go Finalscratch. If you want to DJ house (as in parties in a house, not House) parties, Hercules should be cool.
DJ-1800 is very easy to use, but not very flexible. Traktor is da bomb but it takes getting used to. In this case, you have "too much" flexibility. The latest version of Traktor should handle AACs as well, I think. You'll need a Griffin iMic to handle both a monitor (headphone) setup together with your 'Books external audio.
i personally use ableton live bec aside from mixing whole tracks, i throw in some loops, vocal samples, drum breaks, and play softsynths on top of the whole thing. the beauty of this software is that it loops everything, all in sync. it's like having a band at your fingertips. the bad thing about this is that all of your audio clips have to have warp markers. these help the software play everything in sync. it's very time consuming to manually place them especially if the audio clip is a whole track (5-7mins long) while traktor (i think)automatically scans the audio file and builds a tempo map from there. Been using Ableton for two weeks now and it's driving me nuts. But it is a great application just the same. I have to get used to it pa more. Just new to this whole real-time mixing thing. Aside from the fact that I use the set-up with live musicians so keeping everything in order is key just so that we can practice sets. Gladly they have loads fo tutorials on both the Ableton site and on the internet.
Been using Final Scratch Pro in this DJ school called Spin City and it rocks! The software is based on Traktor but the beauty of this is that its a hardware/software combo that connects your PowerBook (or PC) to the analog or digital DJ setup: a mixer and two turntables (or CD players). We only use the software for cueing the songs in either source of your choice, then we spin on our blank records the old analog way. With full control over pitch control and even backmasking. If DSLRs are to SLRs then Final Scratch is your modern day mixer
I agree on Hercules for more amateur mixing. Bought the unit and the hardware component while I was in the UK, and didn't really like it. I guess since I have no experience mixing ever whether using turntables or CD-Js so it didn't really appeal to me. Plus I was really looking for something that worked somewhat like Reason and Ableton seemed to be the right choice. So I returned my Hercules system and bought an audio interface instead. The people at the music store did suggest that FinalScratch would have been a great choice as well if you want to DJ using your laptop. It too has a hardware component at ChrisZ mentioned.
I just really did it by trial and error. I have to re-install it after going Tiger, but there's a setting where you can choose the audio output method. I think Traktor has a site with tips, but I'll try to remember the exact procedure.
I just finished downloading DJ1800. I really find it easy to use. User friendly interface. Really cool mixing music with my laptop.
Been using the DJ-1800 and I find the performance superb even with modest system specs. All controls are very intuitive and I've observed that there are no latency problems even when multiple applications are open at the same time. Pitch control is excellent on this one and I even use my wireless mouse to control it. All I need now is an external mixer.
I used Xone 62 by Allen & Heath as my external mixer and it really worked seamless with my laptop, Galing! [Edited on 10.8.05 by jcc177]
jcc177, how did you connect your Xone62 to your laptop? Do you have an external sound card? Am also intrigued by the Xone:92, I've read that its one of the best mixers in the world. All of its controls are apparently emulated by the new Traktor DJ Studio ver. 3.
does any one have the newest version of final scratch... feedback naman... planning on getting one...
I used 2 laptops with DJ800 in place of CD mixers and it worked fine with me. If you're gonna use 1 Laptop as source of all your mixing work i think you'll need a external soundcard. With regards to the Xone 92, you can check this site for the reviews. www.xone.co.uk [Edited on 10.10.05 by jcc177]
Yup, that's where I read about the Xone:92 after visiting native instruments' site when they informed me about the new version of Traktor. There's a new beta version of DJ 1800, 2.2 beta 5. MIDI controllers are now supported. Planning to get Evolution's X-Session controller for this
jcc117, I've been using DJ-1800 for years now but you haven't noticed the latency yet, hmmmmm I use it with my DMC world competition mixer and my Griffin iMic.... the real DENON 1800F is still my choice and =my pioneer CDJ's.... have you purchased the DJ-1800 already?
