http://deadline.com/2017/12/what-ha...eal-happens-broadcast-news-sports-1202220975/ It seems that we might finally see a Disney-produced XMen or Fantastic Four Movie.
If Disney get's Fox... They will have the best streaming service next year (are they launching it 2018? hehehe) Just imagine the content... Lucasfilms, Disney, Marvel and Fox... I wonder if the deal will include 20th Century Fox World... because there's one under construction at Genting Will Fox under Disney correct the animals in Ice Age? and will we see a new Titanic where Jack and Rose share the floating door? Then there's that X-Men and Fantastic 4 thing...
So it’s official folks. I wouldn’t call it monopoly because we still have the other major studios Universal and Paramount but this is huge. Apart from owning Fox’s Marvel Movie rights, Disney owns 30% of Hulu, add to that Fox’s 30% share and you have Disney being the majority owner of a major streaming company. Oh yeah, they’re also going to launch their own streaming channel soon. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-42353545
Being the new owners of Hulu, wouldn't it make more sense for Disney to just put their content on Hulu?
Mm...for me, I am not that interested in Disney princess and Marvel superheroes. I am far more invested (in terms of focus and time) in TV series/original content. This is where Netflix US or HBO provides leadership: Game of Thrones, The Crown, the quirky shows from Japan, etc. This new mega company will hopefully provide competition to Netflix and HBO so I am cautiously all for it. For big-screen movies, I have mixed feelings. Disney has a wholesome, family-oriented image to fiercely protect and that will surely dictate what projects or films to make. No controversial films. Pa-cute sila for sure. That's a crying shame.
Fox does have its own share of original series which might run exclusively on Disney's streaming service, Lucifer, The Gifted and Gotham just to name a few. Netlix will also probably lose all their Marvel TV series. What's interesting is Gotham's a Fox produced DC property property. We might end up having a Disney produced DC property.
It’s not yet over folks. The Fox shareholders will still have the final say. Comcast can still offer a counterbid.
Mm...crowded na space for streaming. Netflix dominates with its huge and ever expanding subscriber base. But it is burning through cash like there’s no tomorrow (sacrificing profitability to gain market share) by investing heavily in content. Worldwide, Netflix has captured 37% market share (130 million subs). Disney/Fox, even with its deep financial resources and rich content library, will find it difficult to compete with Netflix. If it chooses to just price-match Netflix, I seriously doubt if Netflix subscribers will be persuaded to switch to Disney Fox and adding another USD 10 dollars a month expense to add Disney Fox may be too rich for most Netflix subscribers. Ever wonder why Amazon is not aggressive in promoting Amazon Prime Video by investing as much, if not more, as Netflix in content creation? Is the pie big enough to accomodate Disney Fox? I am not complaining. Crowded space means a more competitive field = lower prices for everyone. Then, there’s Apple rumored service. I doubt if Marvel will be enough of a differentiator/persuader. Ang dami na nila.
Hmm. It’s not just Marvel, it’s the Starwars expanded universe, Fox movie properties like Alien, Predator, Die Hard, Avatar, Disney’s existing movie franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean not mention the Pixar films. Not sure if this will be enough to quell Netflix’s video streaming dominance but it’s going to be close.
Disney Closes $71.3 Billion Fox Deal, Creating Global Content Powerhouse https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/n...al-creating-global-content-powerhouse-1174498 So it's finally official. Nope, we're not going to see Galactus in Endgame as they've wrapped up shooting months ago. Biggest question, Will Marvel integrate Fox Marvel characters like X-Men and Deadpool in the MCU or will they exist on a separate cinematic universe. Tone wise it doesn't make sense. The last 2 Fox/Marvel movies, Deadpool 2 and Logan were R Rated movies, plenty of obscenity, gore and a little nudity.
Not to be lost in this is Disney's increased share of streaming giant Hulu. Disney's CEO says he wants to bring Hulu's service to more countries worldwide. Or maybe, just maybe, they'll fold it into their Disney+ streaming platform later on...
