Disney Play streaming service is company’s biggest priority, CEO says

So it's official. Disney's streaming channel now has a name - Disney Play ( sounds very derivative.;)). The good news is as per Bob Iger, Disney's top honcho, the suggested price will be far less than Netflix's USD8.99 base fee. the bad news, that price point may change as Disney continues to add more content. You'll have all the Lucasfilm, Marvel, Disney, Pixar content in one streaming channel ( No mention of Fox properties / series though). The Marvel / Netflix series ( Defenders, Luke Cage, Daredevil, etc. ) will stay with Netflix for now.

What I do is subscribe alternately. I'm currently subscribed to Fox+, next month iFlix, then Netflix after.

That seems like a lot of work. I'm actually after the no commitment part rather than the "cheaper than cable" part though. Netflix is making it very hard to pause any subscriptions since they seem to be having one major blockbuster/series release on a monthly basis.

I wonder if Disney Life will be renamed Disney Play for the Asian market just for the sake of uniformity. Disney Life screams "Guinea Pig" from the moment it was launched here.

One thing that's attractive with Disney Play for me are the classic Disney movies I and my generation of Martial Law kids grew up with in the 70s. I can't wait to watch them all over again.

On streaming services, our family is on three right now: Netflix, Stan (an Aussie-based service) and Amazon Prime. I start off with the free 30-day trial. Once that expires, I start another 30-day free trial using my wife's account details, and then my two daughters. So we had 4 months of free service before we started paying for it. I started my free trial with Amazon Prime on Aug 17 so I have about ten days to go before I start paying.

I used the same strategy with YouTube Red just so we could binge watch "Cobra Kai". I promptly deactivated my account way before the 30 days was up.

For US consumers that live on on-demand entertainment streaming services, this will raise their monthly cost to $50 (Netflix, Hulu, Prime, HBO, Disney).

They'll likely bundle it together with ESPN+ and Hulu which might prove to be an irresistible package, if priced reasonably...

A Disney+, bundled with ESPN+ and Hulu, plus Apple TV+ might be my choice over Netflix, but then again, this will depend on the final price. ;)

That's sounds like a good deal; it might even be cheaper than a cable subscription. With Hulu able to stream sports events, you can now walk away from cable service altogether.
