disk utility won't repair permission

    help disk utility won't repair permisson and send out this error. what could be wrong. see attached :

    Try repairing permissions on 37.3 GB ST940110A instead of Macintosh HD. If that fails, the fix on this forum might help.

    i tried that but then no good. so I tired reinstalling osx. ok na. phew what a curse
