I'm JC, just a new member (minutes ago).

Last December, I'm using my MBP (using Leopard) then biglang may software update (na hindi ko na matandaan kung ano). After sometime, bigla nalang may lumilitaw na parang garbled wire-like sa screen ko and after that, frozen na ang screen (including all my opened applications) - in short, nag-hang na po.

When I tried to force shutdown, then re-start, sa gray screen pa lang, may garbled wire-like na ulit that made the screen freeze and couldn't start-up normally na. Paminsan-minsa, maswerte na tumuloy bumukas, but most of the time, pahirapan muna. I ignored it for a while but last weekend, mukhang di na kinaya. Kahit anong start-up and forced shutdown gawin ko. Then sabi sa manual, check the hardware, wala naman problema. I tried na rin mga suggested solutions sa manual including repair disc, verify disc, etc. Minsan OK minsan hindi pa rin tumutuloy.

May nabasa ako na baka sa security update daw, so ginawa ko I installed nalang ulit yung CD na kasama sa MBP (parang na - downgrade yata kasi before pa ng Leopard ko nabili ito). Right now, I'm using MAC OSX Version 10.4.11 (last Sunday ko lang po ginawa ito). How sad, I haven't backed-up my files, so pati yun nawala po. :(

I tried several repair disc, verify disc, etc. Pero madalas pa din na lumalabas ang parang wire-like that made it froze.

I would really appreciate it very very much. Sumasakit na po ulo ko. I'm not really a techie guy when it comes to MAC. Baguhan lang po, a switcher from windows here.

I discovered this site while I'm browsing for solution (which a miracle BTW, kasi bigla na naman naging OK ang start-up process ng MBP ko).

    Thanks a bunch.
    JC

is your MBP still under warranty? i can't find it anywhere if it says so in your post so forgive me for asking...if not, then a trip to ynzal would do the trick...take a break and let them have a see and watch their collection of movies on their apple tv while waiting...

sorry sir. parang ganito ang itsura nya but a combination of gray ang black ang kulay and medyo kumpul-kumpol (minsan forming like a box of rectangular or square form and some are just stand alone like these).

sorry sir. di ko nabanggit. it's already out of warranty. more than a year na kasi sya. this is the first MBP na nailabas. kaya i'm trying to troubleshoot it without going to mac center. :(

do a fresh install and don't do the software update and use it for some time. if the problem still returns then i think its a logicboard problem, specifically the video card.

Was hoping you had the later model with nvidia vid card, since problems with the video card are covered by warranty even without apple care. Since yours is the one with the ATI card, the best is to just bring it to a service center for a diagnose.

thank you for the advice. so far, i didn't do the software update. and so far, so good. my MBP started normally (that's the reason why i can reply now). :)

is there any meet ups organized for this group where help and discussions are available in terms of other mac problems?

thank you for the enlightenment sir. so far, so good na ulit (without updating the software). pag bumalik ulit ang problema, i'll have it diagnosed na sa mac center.

*but still i don't get it why would it give such problems with just simply updating the software. just don't want to be in the dark wondering... :(

though i'm a newbie to mac and having these nightmares with my MBP, i'm still a proud switcher. :)

if i have my MBP diagnosed in any apple center, do they charge for diagnostic fee? coz i still have problems with startup. the wire-like is gone, but still it hangs during startup on the gray screen, the thing that circling around suddenly froze and then nothing will happen. what's wrong with these? but sometimes, if i do the hardware check first then restart, it will open normally (but 1 lucky try out of 10 normally). please help. thank you. :(

    Is it something like this?

To date, my MBP is still working and I no longer have the problem.

have you checked the memory, there might be a glitch it the memory or even the graphics card, usually updates might affect the graphics card due to new sets of instructions I/O tot he graphics processor, it might also be an issue of screen resolution, by default an update might be changing your screen resolution to higher modes which your system cant support, i would truly insist that you bring it to a mac store to check it out, good luck.
