    https://www.businessinsider.com/sweden-most-coronavirus-deaths-europe-per-capita-report-2020-5

Johan Giesecke, Sweden's former chief epidemiologist who is now a health adviser to the World Health Organization, told Business Insider that while Sweden's relaxed policy had not yet been successful in curbing its COVID-19 outbreak, it would in the future.

    QUOTE

"There is very little we can do to prevent this spread," he wrote in a piece in a piece for the Lancet medical journal earlier this month.

"A lockdown might delay severe cases for a while, but once restrictions are eased, cases will reappear," he wrote.

"I expect that when we count the number of deaths from COVID-19 in each country in one year from now, the figures will be similar, regardless of measures taken," he added.
    UNQUOTE

Not all countries have the same set of circumstances - population density, health care system, culture, etc. So we will see if his statements will be proven correct one year from now.

As long as there is no vaccine, there will always be a second wave, third wave, fourth wave, etc. but the severity of the second wave, third wave, etc. should be minimized as more and more people practice the new norm, becomes more educated and aware of the virus increases as time passes by. *Ideally* government should apply its lessons learned combating this pandemic and have in place measures to quickly suppress these #n wave of infections - through thorough contact tracing, testing, and localized quarantine for these individuals / communities.

With this epidemic forcing us to use online platforms for learning/working etc, we should be careful with Zoom specially with kids (posted in the other Meeting Apps thread too):

    https://www.newsweek.com/church-sue...ng-security-during-hacked-bible-class-1504055

Citing a Zoom security document, the lawsuit said the company did not protect those using its platform in spite of password protections and other assurances that meeting hosts would have control over who accessed the virtual meeting space.

The lawsuit alleged the study group was unable to turn off the videos and decided to end their class early after it was hacked a second time just minutes later.

After alerting Zoom of the incident, the church administrator received a response from the company identifying the hacker as "a known serial offender" who had been "reported multiple times to the authorities," the lawsuit said.

Looks like recent security updates haven't been enough to stop hackers.

I feel sorry and embarrassed for Duque. I really wonder the basis he used for concluding that we are currently in the second wave of infections. Duque later retracted his statement.

^^^If it's published by Bloomberg, of course it'll be slanted toward the financial aspect. Article contains mostly general and anecdotal information.

I honestly would prefer a cure over a vaccine.

If I'm not mistaken... Sanofi Pasteur took years to test Dengvaxia... companies only have months to find a vaccine for Covid-19

The up side is that the first ones to get the vaccine are the same set of people who first used the govt bought COVID-19 test kits. :)

I'd wait for 1 calendar year before getting myself and my loved ones vaccinated.

I wonder what sort of legal protection can Duterte offer any vaccine provider in light of how PAO went after people connected with Dengvaxia.

The admistration is boasting that it has been administering over 30,000 COVID tests a day. Problem is, existing labs can only process the results of 5000 each day. This is why we've been seeing a steady average of 200+ positive cases a day for several weeks now. Add to that a 2-week backlog of tests, and you've got yourselves what is likely a very inaccurate and confusing picture of the current situation as far as how effectively we're dealing with the problem.

PHA or Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines comprising of 744 member private hospitals respectfully requests Duterte to replace Duque. PHA originally backed Duque when 14 senators issued a senate resolution for Duque to resign last month for failure of leadership. Let's see if Duterte still maintains confidence with his appointee.

This is a little dated, having come out in April, but relevant nonetheless. Just FYI about this current WHO...

and why they let the dogs out. :p

Tedros was elected as Director-General of the World Health Organization by the World Health Assembly on 23 May 2017, becoming the first director-general who is not a medical doctor.

Singapore's graduating students have returned. Normal school will resume June 02

And we decided to wait for a vaccine!

Well, it wouldn't be without merit; nothing wrong with playing it safe:
