compressing wav files

    hello.

    i was wondering how people compress their wav files. i coverted a 300kb mp3 to a wav so i can have it as my ringtone on my nokia 3650. but it became 2.2 mb. how am i to compress this file without damaging the sound quality. what software fo i need for this. i heard there is but it is windows based. is there a mac version? :)

    Use iTunes. Or iTunes for Windows.

    Hi Joanna,

    Have you adjusted the settings in iTunes? Under Preferences > Importing

    Then Import Using: WAV Encoder
    Setting: Custom

    Then change the Sampling rate to either 8,11, or 22kHz ( 8 being the lowest/smallest filesize you can get. You'll have to experiment to know which is the ok quality/smallest filesize.)
    Sampling size: 16bit
    Channels: Mono

    Also you can also use Quicktime Pro, and export it with the same settings. Either app will do.
