That shouldn't be a surprise. OS development usually takes several months or even years.

Maybe its because the improvements or added features for the Snow Leopard is so minimal for them to actually call it a new cat?

From the list of big cats, it could be Clouded Leopard as well as Sabre Tooth or even Cougar...
and soon enough they'll be releasing the smartest of them all, teh OS X 10.8 Catwoman.

    SabreTooth.. how about BlueTooth? :p

Slight OT: i wonder why the recent release of Mac OS has been named after the Family of Cats? hmmm.. is there a reason?

Max OS X Thunder Cats, that is a good one.

It will be exciting to see what user interface changes 10.7 will bring. By the time we gonna get 10.7, Microsoft will be ready with Windows 7 SE, or the release of Service Pack 3. At that time Apple will claim a fair share of new users, since Windows 7 has just become stable.

I hope though that they will give a lot more effort in making Snow Leopard into a rock stable OS already. It is on its best way, but still needs more refinement to iron out all the kinks and issues many users seem to experience. Remember, just because someone finds their system rock stable already, it does not mean that it is like that for everyone else too.

Next year will be interesting in the world of computing for sure. New processors that will speed up our systems, and slowly the 64-bit transition will roll on. 2011 we are ready for our 3D 64-bit operating system on our computers with 8GB RAM standard and six-core mobile processors. Can't wait! :D

especially, when apple will refresh a line of their products. as of now, all are rumors, but let's see. next year will be the moment of truth. i waiting on Apple refresh on their of MBPs, especially IF they intend to put quadcore chip on it. i'm wondering how they would compensate with it's heat. will the unibody will be retained or an ingenious redesigned!

OSX 10.1 is "Puma" and cougar is just another name for puma.

Sabre Tooth, or Smilodon, just doesn't sound like a good name as it is an extinct felid. Would you like your next OSX to be named for an extinct prehistoric beast? :)

Why go for 10.7 when Apple can drop the 10 and go for Mac OS XI? Hehehehe!
