    Hi PhilMUG,

I got my mom a brand new iMac from a seller online. (It was brand new, and before purchase, I checked the warranty and it was unregistered) anyway, everything was well. It still is; however, i tried updating her iLife apps (iPhoto, iMovie, etc.) and it shows me this text:

"these apps were already assigned to another apple id, and they will be available in that Apple ID’s purchases list. If you don’t have access to that Apple id and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the application”

and then another window pops up

“this update is not available for this apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled”

this isn’t a matter of life and death. i just wanted to know if any of you know how to resolve this. i’ve my own mac, and i knew that it was brand new when opened the mac.

let me know if you have a solution or suggestion for this situation.

    thanks!

    Hi guys!

I know no one has really responded or anything but I just want to give an update on this issue because two of the authorized resellers in the Philippines couldn't resolve the problem. One even said that it was a lost cause - but it's not.

I got in touch with the seller and I was fortunate enough that their supplier was an authorized Apple reseller in the Philippines. I brought it to this authorized reseller but they couldn't seem to figure it out themselves. However, they did have a theory that it was an issue with my iTunes account.

After getting in touch with Apple support, they finally resolved the issue and granted me the update through the App Store. Apparently, they've experienced this issue with some users before. They best way is to get in touch with them before your warranty expires so you don't have to pay for anything. Look for an iTunes support specialist so you don't have to move around talking to different apple support members.

    That's it. :) Godspeed everyone!

@Fireworks, my opinion on this matter is even though the actual unit was not registered with Apple thus reflecting the result you mentioned it doesn't necessarily mean that it was never used. Somebody could have tested downloading software using their own Apple ID. Or updated the software using their Apple ID. Registering the actual device is another process as I understand it.

At at the end of it, I am glad that you have resolved this matter. Am just wondering as well why your question didn't receive any replies. Muggers are usually quick to help. Good morning.

Actually, the iTunes specialist told me that while my situation does not happen often, it does happen. Something to do with a faulty internet connection during initial registration. :)
