Do some experiments. Try sending using Thunderbird. If it works, check the port settings. Then make sure Mail has those same settings.

I called them up. They could not detect what's wrong. After 4 calls and long conversations with their help desk, they suggested that I restart my router so that I would acquire a new IP address. Apparently, certain IP addresses are blocked on port 25 because of spamming history. After a restart, everything worked fine.

what if your ip address changes to a blocked ip address? that's what happened to me. solution: use another port to send via smtp to my own smtp server.
you can also try using bayantel's smtp server if you like.

Having the same problems here. Receiving emails is no problem, but can't send mail using mail.skyinet.net as smtp. I tried Bulakbol's solution of restarting the router and modem, but still, no dice.

I also can't get through to bayantel's customer service, which is agonizing. Anybody here have any ideas?

I am on PLDT DSL and I'm experiencing the same. I guess it is a Mail thing and not an ISP thing.

    Weird. Ok na siya.

I was talking to a bayantel customer service rep and i described to him if it's possible na my IP address is blocked because of spamming history like bulakbol said. So while I was on hold, I tried sending an email using a fresh download of thunderbird and it worked! I tried it on Mail.app again, and surprisingly, it worked too without me changing any of the account settings.

I do a restart of my router whenever I encounter this and it fixes the problem. Not sure what really is going on.

t is because the ISPs are blocking the port = IP . some people does spam with the same IP.
