9/10 Had fun watching it. I like that it seems like a stand alone movie. Not much cameos on other MCU superheroes. Also as opposed to other MCU movies, they have a good villain here. I always felt that MCU movies have weak villains with the exception of Loki.
terrific movie, with true human drama and credible plotting, and of course great visual effects. made many other superhero movies look dumb by comparison.
who's going to argue with a multi-awarded literary legend?! i've always preferred standalone superhero movies vis-a-vis superhero gang bangs—which seem better suited to people with attention deficit disorder. in fact, my three favourite marvel movies (ironman 1, black panther, and logan) are all stand-alones. it's not that superhero team-ups are not enjoyable, but they reek of commercialism, studios trying to please everyone. there are many things to like about black panther—the throwback plotting (simple, focused, with ample character development), fight choreography, cinematography, musical scoring, etc. i especially liked the "positioning" of the villain. most superhero movies employ formulaic villains—evil for evil's sake. killmonger, on the other hand, has a reasonable agenda—the emancipation of oppressed blacks around the world, with a dash of revenge. he's malcom x, not martin luther king; magneto, not professor xavier. in college, i was recruited by a black fraternity. maybe because i'm half black, black from the waist down. i declined. but still, wakanda forever!
It's a very original movie. A breath of fresh air to the stifling MCU gimmickry of late. It's non-stop action, fantastic storytelling and superb cast make this one of my favorite Marvel movies in a long time. It really has its own thing going on, very independent of the Avengers' world. Michael B. Jordan would have made an okay Black Panther too, had Chadwick Boseman not been the perfect casting acting-wise. If only Jordan had not been miscast as Johnny Storm, he would have made a fresh face to be BP. Not sure if he would have handled the accent as perfectly as Boseman though. And eherm, anybody else think Mischonne and the Dora Milaje are sexy as hell? Those anatomically-correct, form-fitting uniforms, bald heads... woof, mercy! It is good to be king. And Lupita, Lupita, so lupita... sigh.
Well worth the price of admission in the cinema, as most Marvel movies go. I don't think I can enjoy such movies in the comforts of my living room anymore. It's just too big of a spectacle to limit oneself to a TV screen, even if one had a 60-inch 4K HD.
I found myself Black Mirroring on Black Panther. How many superhero movies have made you think? Yeah, they're action movies—mostly mindless—which is probably why when one local TV network surveyed people for a Family Feud-like game show, and asked Pinoys to name their favourite pambansang bayani, the top two answers were (drum roll...) FPJ, and Manny Pacquiao. True story. Mindless begets mindless.
Nothing beats the cinema experience. It's not just the visuals and the sounds. It's you sharing the experience with fellow film fans and geeks and the smell of popcorn all around. The environment and the atmosphere is just different.
it's a good movie indeed! i just don't get all the intense hype around it. it was awesome! but i just felt it was waaay too overyhyped.
At the end of the day, the thing I realized was that Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are "poor" compared to his highness.
