I have several PCs that runs on both Windows XP SP2 and Vista. I also have several external drives formatted in NTFS and a USB thumbdrive that is formatted in FAT32.

I plan on getting the new MBP13". What program should i install in MAC to be able to read and write on my external drives / thumbdrive. I don't want to change the external drive's format from NTFS because we still use it for the other PC computers.

Free or paid programs are welcome. I just need the best and most reliable. I don't want a freeware but unreliable software. It's ok to pay as long as it is reliable. The more stable, the better.

    Thanks

    Joms,

MacFUse and NTFS 3g works together so you may read and write to NTFS drives from your MAC OS. What you have to watch out for is that you ALWAYS have to properly remove your usb HDD in windows and mac. Otherwise, your MAC will not recognise your HDD and you would have to plug it in a windows computer and properly remove it.

I have not experienced NTFS by Paragon so I cannot comment on its efficiency.

    Cheers

All NTFS tools for the Mac are very stable, however, it will always have issues from time to time. The only very safe file format for Windows and Mac is FAT32. Of course, you lose a lot of other features such as storing large files over 4GB.

I personally use Paragon NTFS and it is very good. I rarely read/write to NTFS, though.

A few minutes later... I just installed NTFS-3G and it works fine. Give it a go. It's a great alternative to Paragon's NTFS for Mac. :)

Tried using this one but after restarting, the startup of my mac became noticeably slower. Unistalled it. Still gotta try the NTFS 3G though.

I use Paragon NTFS and my startup is slower, though I'm not sure if I can attribute that solely to that install. I'll try out the alternatives.

Would anyone have any experience with NTFS-3G running on Snow Leopard? Any issues?

It works as long as you're not booted to 64-bit.
