    Good morning!
I am trying to back up the important files in my laptop
What files do I need to backup so that I will have copies of my incoming and outgoing emails? (I use Mail)
    Where are these files located?

Is it the *.mbox files in ~Library/Mail/Mailboxes?

    Thanks and best regards

If you have a .Mac account it would be better and easier to backup your email by using the Sync options of .Mac (System Preferences > .Mac > Sync tab) or the Backup application that you can download from Apple's website or the .Mac website.

what I did just a couple of weeks ago was to save them in iPod. Just drag & drop the mailbox you wish to backup into your iPod (you have to format this in the preference pane to use the iPod for data also) the Mail Folder is in the Users Folder --> Library --> Mail.

    Hope this works for you...
