Help! I've been trying in vain to use Mail as my default email app. But somehow, i cannot configure it properly. My computer is connected to a network (server is running Windows). For now, I am accessing my email directly from Horde (which is horrendously ugly!!!).

Please, sumasakit na ulo ko and I still cannot make Mail work for me.

  2. Consult your mail administrator...

Your outgoing server (SMTP) might require authentication...

You mentioned that you connect to a Windows server; is it running Exchange? If so, what version? (5.5, 2000, 2003?)

If the mail server is indeed running Exchange and you're using Mail to connect in POP3 mode, try IMAP or Exchange mode instead.

    More detailed information would help...

Horde uses a system that requires the whole email address as the username.

Desperate, I tried using Outlook Express on a PC connected to the same network. The configuration is almost the same with that of Apple Mail. Surprisingly, everything worked fine.

    :(

Is this a case where a Windows program is sometimes better than an Apple program?

  5. Try using the IP address of the mail server instead of its fully qualified domain name. Also try Mozilla Thunderbird on the same Mac to see if it can connect; if so, then Mail.app is the culprit.
