    Apple confirms it has acquired Shazam | The Verge

    Looks like we'll loose the option to "play the song in Spotify" soon...

    And maybe iOS 12 will have a "Now Playing" feature (like the Pixel)

    Didn't know Shazam is still alive. lol Hope shazam features get imbedded by default in iOS and MacOS

    AFAIK they use Shazam for Siri's "song-guessing" skillz

    Yes, that’s correct, you can already ask Siri what song is playing in the background. Perhaps the next step is to mimic Google Assistant’s [offline] always-on song detection. It goes without saying that pulling information from a limited database isn’t going to be as accurate as its online counterpart, but you can just imagine what will happen if Apple were to include online automatic song detection that’s listening in the background every few minutes. Apple already gets flak for the purported always-on Siri in the new iMac Pro.

    …that, or dread the possible removal of Spotify support from Shazam…
