app that converts videos to .gif images

    anyone know of an application that can do this? I only know of a few for windows.

    if i'm reading your query right, you don't need external apps for this. you can do it within OSX.

    try the following:

    (1) grab a screenshot using VLC or finder's shift+apple+4
    (2) open the image and convert to .gif via 'save as' in preview

    HTH.

    sorry I haven't made it really clear. what I meant is that a portion of the video be converted into an animated .gif

    oh ok. i will not pretend to know the answer to that. maybe the video gurus can fill us in :)
