    I just installed the 1333 stock ram of my early 2011 mbp to my son's mb unibody white but no go. After pressing power button it wont boot just a beep beep. I then put back the stock ram of the mb and it booted. Must be something wrong with how i inserted the ram

    just installed mine a while ago, and bought one from a seller here in Cebu for only 2,650 a lesser price compared to louie.

    @cyrian
    there is really no speed improvement but the 8GB ram for me makes me use my parallels desktop more without beach balls, and i can run lots of apps, and more tabs with my browser. and an increase of memory for my video card (512MB from 256MB) for playing games.

    you really don't need to upgrade if you are not usually running apps simultaneously. to really get a speed increase, i suggest to upgrade the HDD to a SSD.

    I think the MacBook 2010 model (like it's counterpart MBP 2010) will only accept 1066Mhz RAM.

    yup i bought 2x2gb ddr3 1066 from him.

    @potpot2 - like what natsgo said, maybe your son's macbook only accepts 1066, not 1333.

    It depends. If you use App that utilize a lot of memory like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Photoshop you will feel it more responsive. Same also if you do a lot of multitasking and open a lot of memory hungry apps.

    If you simply use your Mac for web surfing, typing reports, or even light image or video editing you won't feel the difference against 4gb worth of RAM.

    it may seem scary to hear the beep, i also experienced it when i tried running battlefield on my macbook pro and heard a long beep then i had to do a hard restart. and my mbp is still running at its best until now. but in your case an incompatible ram can hardly destroy any system. if its incompatible it really won't boot, (and a beep) but try attaching one stick at a time as what is suggested, to determine the failing stick.

    before upgrading and buying specific ram modules just be sure to research the compatibilities between the laptop and ram to further minimize the problems..

    hi potpot2
    - just want to share this link Power On Self-Test Beep Definition

    it really depends on how many simultaneous beep you are hearing:

    this is taken from apple's knowledge base. I suggest, try resetting the ram, if it fails, then better use a different ram :)

    Just upgraded to 8GB :) i noticed that apps respond faster. parang nasasakal kasi sa 4gb pag nag coconvert ka ng photo then bukas si photoshop :) .

    Used a crucial 8gb kit ::)

    I've also upgraded my 13" MBP from Louie. My default apps include iTunes, Safari and Parallels Desktop running Windows 7. Everything runs fast..
