Anybody else tried ooVoo as a Skype alternative?

Anybody else here tried the Skype alternative, oovoo?

It's still in beta but they have a Mac version. They say you can try videoconferencing with up to 6 people.

I tried it on my Macbook and my wife's Windows XP PC and it worked. Experienced a bit of feedback on the windows side but maybe its just because of my mic and speaker setup.

By the way, if you do want to install it on a Mac, their installer has a little problem. If you install straight into you startup disk (default directory is your "Applications" folder), you will end up with an inaccessible oovoo.app file. The workaround is to install it into a different folder, say the "Desktop", then just drag the resulting "oovoo.app" into the Applications folder.

Hopefully, they fix this glitch in their subsequent releases.

Anyway, I hope the app works well especially when they move out of the beta phase, just so we can have a viable alternative to Skype.

It says, free phone calls, and gives 500 minutes free! But I saw that it's only for Windoze :(

It works for mac now. Just installed it here on my Macbook. You have to do the workaround I posted for it to work though..

Yeah, I mean the free minutes, not the Mac issue?

i am an oovoo happy user. though, they are still working on the compatibility issues with snow leopard and hope to get it working by sept 19.

the best part of using oovoo is you can record your video conferences. so for someone like me who's away from home, it is such a joy!
