Hey Aldrich. Sorry so sound like a party pooper but I'm sorry that's piracy and as has many times been mentioned here we must refrain from discussion in this forum.

wait lang. confused ako. if it's not supposed to be downloaded for free shouldn't there be an option button of some sort to pay for that online? i am also against piracy but a lot of companies offer their software as free, too, so that's not piracy if one downloads it. but if they are not offering it for free they should at least make an announcement. minsan kasi nakakalito na rin, eh, and then we unknowingly become pirates. like in aldrich's case. di man lang yata protected yung file against unpaid downloads. at least when i tried to download toast 6 titanium yesterday, even if i didn't see the option "button" to pay, it simply would not download, and i realized that i had to buy it pala. we have to be informed also which ones we can download and which ones we can't, right? just my thoughts on this. peace!:2cents::)

Let's see if this can clear your confusion.

Limewire X is free, Limewire PRO is not.

I think what Aldrich means is that he was able to download the PRO version NOT FROM Limewire themselves, but from people unscrupulously sharing the file within the P2P network.

It's the user's responsibility to distinguish legit freeware from cracked commercial software. My advice to go to a site like VersionTracker and see if the application is freeware, shareware or commercial.

    Aldrich,

I think you're missing the point.

The PhilMUG community frowns on discussing and practicing piracy. In fact, the Staff and Board are deliberating at the moment the disciplinary action we will take against one of our members who was reported by other members of trying to sell them pirated software via U2U.

The way you flippantly dismiss this topic and treat it lightly tells us where you're at as far as piracy goes. By your own admission, you are one of those ripping off Limewire, and you even seem to be proud of it.

Unlike you, a lot of us pay for the software we use. These people who respect copyrights would be offended and insulted by your cavalier attitude towards illegally acquiring software.

I'm sorry to tell you that we are not in the least bit amused. By signing up on this site you agreed to follow the guidelines of the group, which includes the section:

"You also agree NOT to write in any posts or in its contents relating to PIRACY of softwares, their website names, links or even ask opinions directly or INdirectly pointing to PIRACY! This Discussion Board will strictly enforce this rule and anyone caught violating this rule will be reprimanded, will be set on probation for a limited time, suspended from posting for a limited time and even banned from this board with or without any warning if you continue to violate these rules after all the warnings that are given."

You have not only written about piracy, you have directly admitted to actually doing it, and worse, are teaching others how to do the same, and propagating this warped mindset to others, as evidenced by phral_ralph's comment:

This is precisely the kind of thinking we'd like to correct.

After repeated admonition from several members and a moderator, you still seem smug and belligerent about it, despite a half-serious apology. I don't think you realize the seriousness of your actions, which you freely and proudly admit to.

Kindly tell us why we shouldn't institute disciplinary action against you.

Aldrich, just like you, I'm a new member of PhilMUG. Unlike you though, I know how to behave.

I am one of those mendioned by Adel as being offended by your remarks. Yes, I paid for Limewire PRO and Office Mac (on student discount though).

To you, I may seem foolish, but I do pay for all my software. If everyone paid for their software, perhaps the prices wouldn't be as high as they are.

You should be ashamed of yourself and I'm glad that the top honcho of this discussion board was the one who personally reprimanded you.

It's people like you who make the rest of us look bad.

I apologize to PhilMUG if I am out of line. I'm normally very cool and restrained, but piracy is one of my biggest peeves.

    Thanks.

    JP

Ah. Spoken like a clueless newbie.

If you take the time to look around and read the post activity, you'll find you stick out like a sore thumb, for two reasons.

    1. You insist on doing the wrong thing. And even be proud about it.

    2. You are one of the most impolite and rude newbies we've ever come across. Fantastic for someone who has only a dozen posts to his name so far (most of them in violation of guidelines too). Like I wrote someone not so long ago, some people can write over a thousand posts and not manage to offend, and there are those who can just write a dozen and manage to make themselves look like an a$$. I think someone who just joined a community should have more sense to be respectful, humble and to follow the rules.

You have a unique way of apologizing, aldrich. Sorry. Not accepted, as far as I am concerned.

To answer the two questions in your last post:

No, sir, I am not a moderator. I am an Administrator. I am also the elected Chairman of The Board of Directors of the Philippine Macintosh Users Group. The staff and I run a tight ship, and we have a good community here. People are respectful of each other, and generally do the right things. I have been asked by some staff members to deal with you, if you must know.

Why didn't I delete this thread off the bat? Well, neither I nor the staff do things that way. It takes a lot to delete a post, like an impromptu online discussion and a vote. No one person can delete a post, or a thread; it's always a group decision. We prefer to let people be responsible for what they write, and to stand by what they write. And in the interests of transparency, we leave things as they are, warts and all. Makes people more responsible for what they write, since it will be on view in perpetuity. So no, we don't delete threads "off the bat."

Normally, newcomers are given a lot of leeway and breathing space, and a lot of infractions are forgiven and overlooked. In your case, you've used up your coupons real quick.

Tread lightly, aldrich. Strike Three. You're on notice.
