Hey Muggers! wanted to share this thought about IMAP. I'm not sure if there has been a thread regarding IMAP but if there is, then merge accordingly: What is IMAP? IMAP, or Internet Message Access Protocol, lets you download messages from Gmail's servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook Express or Apple Mail, even when you aren't connected to the Internet. IMAP creates a constant connection between mail clients (desktop and/or mobile) and Gmail. What's the difference between IMAP and POP? Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and your email client(s). This means when you log in to Gmail using a web browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail (ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email the next time you sign in). IMAP also provides a better method to access your mail from multiple devices. If you check your email at work, on your mobile phone, and again at home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible from any device at any given time. Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Whereas POP is prone to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, IMAP avoids this through two-way syncing capabilities between your mail clients and your web Gmail. If you're trying to decide between using POP and using IMAP with Gmail, we recommend IMAP. How much does IMAP cost? IMAP for Gmail is free. There is an existing thread, though a bit old (2007): http://www.philmug.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=27239&highlight=gmail+imap
I tried switching from POP to IMAP in Gmail for my Mail.app. After creating my IMAP configuration, it went on by downloading the thousands of e-mail I have in my Gmail. How can I prevent this from happening. I would need only my forward e-mail files. Btw, I access my e-mail from both my Mail.app and E71. Looking forward to some technical advise.
yahoo Mail does have free POP mail. MY YAHOO "@YMAIL.COM" GIVES ME A FREE POP but my yahoo "@yahoo.com" doesnt but my "@yahoo.com.ph" does have free POP
they were mentioning in the other thread that they were able to sync their yahoo imap to their iphone. were they just talking about .ph and ymail.com accounts only? or that "@yahoo.com" has no POP but has IMAP?
Probably Apple has some sort of deal with Yahoo to allow IMAP sync on the iPhone and the iPod Touch. No settings need to be entered into an iPhone to sync Yahoo Mail - just enter your address and password, and it works.
yep i'm using my @yahoo and @gmail accounts in iphone... it's free... question. in my mail (mac apps) i can't delete my mails in the "all mail" folder. i mean even though i deleted it and emptied my trash then if i open my mail again still it appears on the folder... hmmm...
