They better sound better than the Bose 700 and Sony XM4 for double the price.

A robber would chop my head off clean without hesitation just to steal this.

Curious to see how it performs though, hi-fi can be quite expensive and this (probably) sits among that category.

Mm...audition then judge. Glad Apple made this foray into the world of headfi. Is it audiophile-grade or a glorified and beautified consumer-grade Beats headphones?

I m sure this will be talked about in headfi.org.

What is missing is CD quality (16/44) streaming on Apple Music. Apple has to add lossless to complement this low to mid-priced overears. Amazon Music already has HD audio.

    And that Smart Case...

Talk about "eccentric" design. :ROFLMAO: I guess it's a good thing it's included, otherwise I wouldn't even think about buying something like that.

Also... charges via Lightning. :( I was hoping they'd go USB-C on this one, but I guess they're not letting go of Lightning just yet.

Mm...only if you are comfortable with wearing an over ear headphone for extended listening sessions. Some people are not comfortable wearing one for hours on end. I have no issue with using for hours on end. Things to look for, besides the SQ or sound quality, is comfort. Avoid one with hotspots. The “net” design of the headband of the Max seems designed to combat or minimize headphone hotspots (basically discomfort caused by the headband and earcups on the skull and ears). Since you live in a temperate country, sweating should be minimal since this is a closed-back.

The sweet spot for the Max is long flights.

As a dedicated headfier, I caution against impulse purchase. You need to audition it first before deciding (to hear if it is your cup of tea as far as SQ is concerned).

Very well said. I’ll try it out once available in my neighborhood store then decide from there.

Cute,... but smart? More like impractical, especially for the expected typical user who tosses everything into their knapsack/messengerbag/totebag. Then, if you hang it outside your bag, it invites too much attention from would-be snatchers.

It does open the after-market though for more useful cases from the likes of Otterbox, Spigen, etc. ... maybe even Tumi.

    P.S.

The headphones themselves look like they will be easily scratched even with light usage.

I guess we will now start seeing a proliferation of headphone protectors, just like what happened to notebooks with the MacBooks/MBPs (but not so much as) phones with the iphones, then (smart)watches with the Apple Watch, etc.

A bit pricey considering this is Apple’s first foray in the over the head headset ( then again all Apple products are expensive.;)). From that price point I’d rather buy a PS5. The current AirPods are great for calls but crappy for music even for a non audiophile like me. Better to audition it first.

It plants itself firmly into the premium wireless headphone market, competing with these pricey but good-looking and relatively good-to-better-sounding (for wireless) cans:

    B&W PX7 Carbon ($399)

    Master and Dynamic MW65 ($499)

Bang and Olufsen Beoplay H95 (800Euros)

I have the B&W PX, the predecessor of the B&W PX7 and I prefer it over my Sony WH-1000XM4. But having had a taste of audiophile headphones with my Focal Elegia, at that price of $550, I'd rather explore wired cans from Hifiman, Audeze, Meze, etc.

Not really a fan of these types of headphones and with that price tag, easy to pass on this one.
