"The Adium Team is proud to present to you AdiumX 0.51, a multiple protocol instant messaging client. This is a culmination of a year long rewrite of adium, which now utilizes libgaim (the core part of gaim) to connect to multiple protocols, and is also based on a new plugin architecture. Partial address book integration, cool looking tabs, multiple protocols for instant messaging, and a compact contact list are some of the many features of the new Adium X. Give it a try; we're sure you will like it."

I don't really use iChat because of my friends in ICQ, Yahoo, and MSN. I used to use Fire but AdiumX is a lot cooler.

I can't seem to change the dock icons. I followed the different instructions but still couldn't make it to work. Has anyone been able to do this? Medyo baduy yung Duck na icon eh...

It has replaced Fire as my default multiple IM app. Works better in handling multiple chat windows... maybe iChat can even learn some tricks from this great app :D Thanks for the heads up joel!

proteus and adiumX are both multinetwork instant messaging programs that connect to AIM, MSN, Jabber and ICQ. So instead of running say iChat for your AIM account, Yahoo! Messenger for your yahoo account, you can have one program to manage all of these. The problem with using 3rd party software to connect to the IM service is that some features might not work.

Going back to the topic: Try out Adium!! IMHO better than the shareware Proteus :)

I've been using adiumx for quite some time now and yes a lot better than YM for me because of the interface... and the fact that it keeps a log of your conversations... it's a cool one ! ! ! :p

The Mac version of YM can be connected only if you log on in an invisible mode. That seems to be missing in Adium X.

What I like about Adium is the Avatars–a feature I've been waiting since forever for Yahoo to implement in their YIM app. But it's what I've been using for a good while now anyway.

Yehey! I've been waiting for this update in ages! I only use iChat right now for video conferencing. Otherwise, it's Adium all the way.
