I have assigned aliases on YAhoo IDs, and everytime i log on any computer using any yahoo messenger, the assigned aliases appear, but with adium, it displays the yahoo ID, is there a fix to this? the contacts/ aliases are stored on yahoo's server because the ids are updated no matter which computer i use. Thanks
Unless I misunderstand what you're saying, the reason you're seeing email addresses instead of names is because Adium draws those names from your address book. Yahoo probably uses its own proprietary method which Adium can't read. If you modify or create contacts in your Address book, you should see names instead of email addresses.
not really, actually i have assigned names for my yahoo ids, name then surname, the info is stored in yahoo's server, so whenever i connect using any messenger in any computer, it displays the name, surname not the Yahoo ID, i was wondering if Adium can retrieve that info from yahoo's server.
what i did in my Adium is that I control click each friend's id, select Get Info and assign a nickname for it. hope this helps.
As quietcynic pointed out, Adium will grab the contact information automatically from your Address Book. It will display the name of your contact as long as you've entered their instant messenger IDs in that person's entry in the Address Book. Address Book can hold multiple AIM, Jabber, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo IDs. This is one of my favorite features of Adium.
