Good day, everyone! A new philmugger here. I was wondering if when I decide to buy a (2019) macbook pro at Japan, will the warranty be eligible in our country? My tita who's living there is convincing me to buy one on my behalf since it is 20k cheaper. I'm not too worried about the keyboard layout since I've dealt with Japanese keyboards before, though it may be a problem in the future since it has the butterfly mechanism. Thank you very much!
Thank you for the response! Do you think it would be smarter to accept my tita's offer? (if i could get it cheaper there, the better?)
If you're fine with a Japanese keyboard and have no plans of selling it, go for it. But check also how much it would cost you if you source it from the US (it would still end up cheaper even if you ship it here). Got my MBP from B&H Dec 2016. Submitted it for warranty earlier due to display issue (covered by the display backlight replacement program). Since they'll get my MBP anyway, I also requested them to replace my keyboard and battery since my unit is also part of the affected batch.
Even in stores in Japan you can request for a special order for a standard english keyboard. Bought 2 Macbook Pros in Tokyo. The first time I bought I had to wait for 2 weeks to get it. On the second time they had it in stock so I walked out of the store with it the same day. The first unit I got from Biccamera in Akihabara, the second one from the Ginza Apple Store.
Yes base models. Most big stores liike Biccamera can process the tax deduction in-store. I just handed them my passport and they discounted me right then and there
It’s now 10%. But you can check Apple Japan website for the current prices (the prices shown doesn’t include the tax yet).
Its around 8-10 percent. Sometime they have promos and even willing to price match if you find something cheaper (within the Japanese online stores like Amazon.jp) so it could go lower.
