there will be a lot of difference in performance if you jump from 512mb to 2gb :)

he stated that he has a 2.2ghz blackbook, so it's a macbook with the santa rosa chipset already. :)

Okay I got this set-up you see here on my sig. I suggest you just leave the slot open till you get to upgrade it all to 4gb. That would be worth it. Nothing would really happen if you combine 512mb & 2gb. But as they say, pairing ram is better. So try it out if you want. Tell us what happens! Haha!

Did that with by bro's mac, was able to see and appreciate the jump in processing speed. That was on a 2.16GHz macbook.

    This might help...

I have a 2.2ghz mb bought last november. Replaced my other 512 last week with a 2gb ram, so im running a total of 2.5gb...

So far, di na gumagapang... Now, i can do surfing, run cs3, office 08 and download files without that annoying "gapang" i was experiencing the first four months...

Still contemplating on getting another 2gb though...

okay, so there is an increase in performance from 512x2. i was able to notice that, esp with vmware.

hmm.. why should i leave the other slot open? is 2gb > 2.5gb?

    i am getting another 2gb soon. ü

currently reading the article linked. thanks!

EDIT: question answered from the article. thanks alvinrayyu. :)

It depends what size you want, and where you buy it. a 2GB memory stick goes around Php 2,000.00. Say for example you want to upgrade your macbook to 4GB RAM, that'll cost you like Php 4,000.00 + or even more, depends where you get it. (that's 2 sticks of 2GB RAM).

isn't it more advisable to run equal paired and same branded RAM? like 2 of the same 2GB brands rather than an odd pair of 512MB + 2GB?

1gb and 512mb will still run better than 2x512mb

i think the pairing would make a difference when you are running under the same capacity

For dual channel RAM, non matched pair will be between 3% to 5% slower than matched pair. You would not really miss the difference unless your total RAM size is much lower than your apps+system demands.
