Well I was also looking for one and eventually ended up getting a 500gb Seagate. They say it might be noisy and eats a lot of power. Then again.

You can however order one from the US or Australia, but it will cost you more.. customer duties and shipping..

i was hoping to get one here. ordering it outside the country would be way too pricey. :p

did you find any sellers of 7200 drives? i was looking for either seagate momentus' or WD scorpio blacks.

Abacus might have those. They always have the new drive models, though they get sold out pretty fast. 7273172

Honestly I don't know because I haven't seen a lot of 7200 rpm drives here yet. And yes, 7200rpm 500GB HDD is a very drool-worthy upgrade.

Let me know if you can find these here :).

i'm still a bit hesitant on that price because...well, its still 1k more expensive than in the states. my gut says you can get it cheaper if you look properly but...i dunno. are you definitely upgrading to a 7200rpm drive?

I'll definitely upgrade my hard drive sooner or later and I will get the 7200 rpm drives for sure when that happens. I still have 160GB free and will upgrade after I have gone below 100 GB.

Have you seen 500GB 7200rpm drives here locally anywhere? If yes, how much?

to anyone who has the 500gb 7200rpm drives, are they really that noisy on your MBs especially the aluminum ones?

does it get to be really too hot (temperature and battery) to handle?

100gig is still a lot :D i'm down to 45gig on my mac partition and 3 gig on my windows one. :slanted:

don't think the 500/7200 drives are available locally yet. they're still a bit hard to find, even in the states.

i've read on noise and vibration and i've gotten mixed reports. some drives are noisy and vibrate more, some drives are quiet and don't shake too much. the 320/7200 should be generally the same with the 500/7200 though.

more often than not you'll feel more vibrations with a 7200 drive seeing as a mac is a very thin laptop

    @ mig

Having said that, i guess it's better that we buy the 500Gb over the 320Gb if speed and noise are just the same

There is a 500GB 7200rpm momentus seagate for reservation being sold at OWC at $159.99 You might want to check this out.

Another to worry about, when ordering online is that if the item gets to be shipped here sa Pinas, don't you think it would be dangerous on the hard drive, you know to be dropped and bumped 'n all in transport?

I've had hard disks shipped... no problem naman :) I guess those guys at OWC get a lot of overseas orders and already know how to pack HDs to make sure they don't get damage.

I'm happy with my 500Gb 5400rpm hard drive. 7200rpm drives will probably deplete my battery faster.

the drive has been for reservation on OWC for 2 months now. it seems stocks are still pretty low and demand is extremely high. the price at OWC is fairly high compared to others though. its $139.99 on newegg and around the same on tigerdirect. :(

    you've ordered from OWC already?

thats the price you pay, i suppose. i don't really mind though as i always have my magsafe with me.
