I'm definitely getting an M1 Macbook Pro 13/14/16 as my next laptop, but what really troubles me is the optimization of software. Not really a problem for many, but when graphic designers like me learned that only lightroom and photoshop will be available (by January?) within the few months, and what about other things like the full Adobe suite, Affinity by Serif, Sketch, Spark, etc etc.? Yeah, it will come eventually, but what's a Pro laptop right now if you can't use it for professional work. I'm even willing to wait for M2 if there are a few incompatibilities that would hinder my workflow. I can't work with just Final Cut and that's the only thing they kept on boasting yesterday. Great product though, and this will only get a lot better through time.

I have been using a Razer Blade Stealth for past 4 1/2 years and although powerful and reliable, its battery is starting to show signs of aging already. Looking at this makes me think there is no better time to switch to Mac than now.
The more I read M1 news vs older intel chips, the more convinced I am that we're not seeing the full picture. Just saw the articles about the geekbench scores vs older macs and it blows them away out of the water. I have a feeling that Apple's going to have a hayday once they get the 16inch formula ready for the Macbook Pro.. The M1X (in theory?) will become a gold standard for work laptops.
I noticed that all the Macs with a M1 only have two Thunderbolt/USB4 ports and these are: Macbook Air Macbook Pro 13" Mac mini Macs with four Thunderbolt/USB-C ports are using Intel chips. The next Macs to transition to Apple Silicon would be the following with four Thunderbolt/USB4 ports by April 2021. Mac mini Macbook Pro 13" Macbook Pro 16" I wonder if these Macs with two Thunderbolt/USB-C ports and four USB3 ports will be included during that Mac event or be part of the mid-2021 update. iMac 21.5" iMac 27" iMac Pro and Mac Pro may get an update in late 2021.
Chismis on the web has it that it isnt possible but it is possible that Apple did not have the time to implement it in macOS 11.0.0 so it may appear in 11.x.x Have yo useen the benchmarks of the integrated GPU? It's ranked #1 among that sort of GPU.
Note that even the lower end Intel MacBook Pro 13 at the 1299 USD bracket only came with 2 ports not 4. So technically this MacBook Pro did not lose any ports since this is a refresh of that model.
The same line of thinking why the Air and 13 inch Pro is limited to only 16GB RAM and 2 TB of SSD max. Apple is simply replacing the low-end models. I bet when Apple refreshes the higher end models, you can get much more RAM and SSDs.
Thanks for posting this. I will expound further. These Macs represent ~80% of all Macs shipped. So be patient the Mac you want to buy will get a higher-end Apple Silicon chip within ~7 months. The M1 chip limited by 16GB of RAM, the best in class iGPU whose performance is comparable to a GTX 1050 Ti and that allows battery life from 10 hours to 20 hours will have a future variant for higher-end Macs with more RAM, an iGPU that has better than GTX 1050 Ti performance and battery life of ~2x. In business, management often look at the largest cost center to prioritize over the 2nd highest or lower cost centers. This has the greatest impact on the bottom line. So it is logical from management, financial and supply chain point of view to prioritize the ~80% of all Macs shipped. Sorry pros you're far fewer than the mass market of users. I expect eGPU support to come with a future update to macOS Big Sur when higher-end Macs will sport Apple Silicon. Are there enough budget Mac users with an eGPU that is more expensive than their Mac that nominally cost ~$1,000? All Macs will get Apple Silicon. With the same number of ports as the Intel Macs sold today on Apple.com. 10GbE port will be an option by next year. Once Apple releases iMac Pro(?) and Mac Pro with Apple Silicon I expect them to reintroduce Xserve. Performance per Watt is very important to data centers too. Microsoft Intel and AMD beware! Apple's going to take a bite of your lunch on the top 20% of the PC market. Excluding of course PC MasterRace types. That's a market Apple has zero interest in and more of a bother than the iPod touch market.

This thing doesn't look like it needs an eGPU. Should you buy an M1 MacBook Pro? Its a 1st gen machine and it's likely that the next gen could be better. Pero 5nm na to. Just don't see how the next gen is going to be massively better.
Macs with M1 have Thunderbolt 4 not Thunderbolt 3. ATM Big Sur on Apple Silicon does not have driver support for eGPU. Expect it in a future update by the time higher-end Macs are updated to higher-end Apple Silicon.
What is the usual time delay for Macbook products to be available in the Philippines from the time they are available in the US from your past experiences? 1 month difference? 2 months? Thanks
