^I actually think it's a brilliant (marketing) move of the FIA to agree to a Netflix series to help keep the interest in the sport alive, especially when we keep seeing the same results year in year out for more than half a decade already.
Bahrain can afford to do this. Now I’m wondering which other places don’t need ticket revenue to be viable.
Whenever I watch Drive to Survive at home my brothers would ask me questions about F1. They're into it too, they already know their names. Also brilliant are those F1 livery ads. Last month I was in the Market for Apple Juice. I didn't effing know that there were lots of brands, 10 to be exact and I didn't know any of those brands. I just took Rauch even if it was not the cheapest one just because it looked familiar. To my surprise saw it at an F1 car.
The exact statement from BIC... Statement from Bahrain International Circuit In consultation with our international partners and the Kingdom’s national health Taskforce, Bahrain has made the decision to hold this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix as a participants-only event. As an F1 host nation, balancing the welfare of supporters and race goers is a tremendous responsibility. Given the continued spread of Covid-19 globally, convening a major sporting event, which is open to the public and allows thousands of international travellers and local fans to interact in close proximity would not be the right thing to do at the present time. But to ensure that neither the sport, nor its global supporter base, is unduly impacted, the race weekend itself will still go ahead as a televised event. Bahrain’s own early actions to prevent, identify and isolate cases of individuals with Covid-19 has been extremely successful to date. The approach has involved rapid, proactive measures, identifying those affected by the virus, of which the overwhelming majority of cases relate to those travelling into the country by air. Aggressive social distancing measures have further increased the effectiveness of preventing the virus’ spread, something that would clearly be near impossible to maintain were the race to have proceeded as originally planned. We know how disappointed many will be by this news, especially for those planning to travel to the event, which has become a cornerstone event of the international F1 calendar, but safety has to remain our utmost priority. Yeah, everyone's health and safety is now the utmost priority. McLaren withdraw from the Australian GP after team member contracts coronavirus
What’s a Formula 1 race without the spectators? Anything louder than the F1 engines are the roars of the crowd. Absent that is like playing Matchbox alone on an empty road. No crowd, no intensity, no motivation. It’ll be like test season instead.

Here's the scoop: Vettel, Raikkonen flew home before cancellation ---- Here's how that FIA announcement went down: AUSTRALIAN GP CANCELLATION STAND-OFF – THE FULL INSIDE STORY "Baku in early June is set to be the next race, as things stand. In the meantime, the summer break will effectively be brought forwards to now – and an attempt will be made to reschedule the missed races, using up the original summer break. Virus-permitting of course." Nobody wanted to step up to make the announcement, until the very last minute after teams pressured the FIA.
